to their world experiences. In Julie Lyonn Liebermann’s book, Planet Musician, you can find a glossary of World Scales and Modes. Why not explore East Indian Ragas, which group scales according to the season, mood or time of day? Our standard map has become a resource for new trips and new ways of thinking about music in the world we live in.

The WMEA Standards Committee has been working for nearly ten years with the 2017 WMEA Standards. We have enjoyed meet- ing with you in our “An Evening with the Standards” series, and sharing ideas at our summer workshops. We have had meaning- ful work in recent years, looking at how we can plan curriculum using both the WMEA Standards and the Social Justice Standards as our guides. In particular, we are grate- ful for the work of Paul Budde, Christine Hayes, Kate Mitchell, Leyla Sanyer,

Aimee Swanson and Rich Tengowski, who were instrumental in creating the 2017 WMEA Standards. This year brings us a new voyage. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is currently revising the state music standards, essentially cre- ating a new map for all of us to explore. The WMEA Standards Committee looks forward to this new TripTik, sharing ideas and planning curriculum that inspire music minds, bigger minds.
