WATTS SAVED

If we’re going to take a Kaizen approach to combating climate change, then where can we see action being taken already? A great starting point is recognizing the importance of sharing best practices and learning from one another—”stealing with pride,” as we often say in our business. For instance, understanding when local sourcing makes a difference and how product packaging plays a pivotal role in reducing waste.
Change is happening across the board—in manufacturing, supply chains, kitchens, restaurants, and waste management. At every stage, from factory to table, we must be passionate about eliminating waste. Whether it’s reducing scrap in factories through better quality control, addressing inefficiencies in logistics that drive up emissions, rethinking packaging materials, or preventing food waste through smarter storage solutions, every step matters. Additionally, identifying opportunities to reduce, reuse, or recycle is critical.

Understanding the environmental impact of a product throughout its full lifecycle is vital as we make decisions on sustainability grounds. In the next edition of Sustainable Future, we’ll dive deeper into assessing lifecycle impacts, shedding light on where to take the next “bite” of the elephant. I look forward to showcasing case studies and examples from our manufacturing partners, highlighting their efforts to reduce waste and make those incremental improvements that will lead to lasting, meaningful change.
