WHAT IS B-CORP?
What are B-Corps?
B Corp certified companies are assessed by B Lab, a nonprofit organisation focused on transforming the economy to benefit the planet, people, and communities. B Lab is known for certifying B Corporations, and the certification process is thorough, considering factors such as materials used, supply chain management, employee benefits, and charity involvement.
Certified B Corporations must update their Impact
Assessment every three years or when ownership changes. This recertification process ensures ongoing improvement and may involve documenting operational processes, site visits, and addressing public complaints to ensure standards are maintained.
Businesses must do the following to be certified:
• Pass the risk review and achieve an Impact Assessment score of at least 80.
• Authorise the publication of their performance on B Lab’s website under their company’s profile.
At Lockhart, we are often asked if we work with B Corp organisations. Here are a couple of examples of our suppliers which have gained B Corp certification.
LOCKHART’S B CORP SUPPLIERS Note from Lockhart’s Supplier: Pure Tabletop
We are proud to be a Certified B Corp since 2022, where we scored a respectable 91 across the 5 key areas. We are future-focused, taking full accountabilities for all our direct and indirect impacts on both people and the planet. To do this, we closely monitor our supply and value chains to ensure we are always working to design, manufacture and promote products that are high quality, innovative and responsibly sourced.
B Corp has allowed us to work within a structured framework to ensure we are working in the most inclusive and collaborative way with engagement from all stakeholders across the business.
We can’t reduce what we don’t measure, which is why as a business we have put in both time and processes to understand our impact on the environment. We release annual Impact Reports in line with GHG protocol standards. We are also proud to be part of the United Nations’ ‘Race to Zero Campaign’, meaning we are committed to halving our emissions by 2030 and reaching Net-Zero by 2050, which is aligned with Bunzl, whilst also placing community and how we can be a positive influence at the heart of key decisions we make daily.
