WHAT ARE THE NEW WORKPLACE RECYCLING LAWS IN ENGLAND?


From March 2025, new commercial recycling legislation will require businesses in England with more than 10 full-time employees to separate recyclable materials from general waste. With routine spot checks conducted by environment officers and non-compliance resulting in fines, it is essential that businesses in England understand their legal obligations. The recyclable waste streams covered by the new rules are: dry recyclable materials (glass, metal, plastic, paper, and card), food waste, and plastic film (starting in March 2027). Much like in Wales, macerators and other food waste treatment equipment, such as dewatering or enzyme digesters, will be banned.
