Laboratory Products 45 New Autoclave Range Launched

BASE is the name British autoclave manufacturer Priorclave has given to the first in a new range of research and laboratory grade autoclave categories that will be officially launched later this year. All Base range autoclaves may be seen as ‘basic’ entry level machines, but they are far more with each standard model offering more features and benefits than previously available.

The Base range is ideally suited for laboratories that run just a few sterilising cycles each day. The approach that Priorclave has brought to the structure of its new autoclave groups will make it far easier for customers to select the best laboratory autoclave-match to their specific sterilising applications.

This new Base range of laboratory and research grade autoclaves includes Benchtop models with 40 and 60 litre chambers, Front Loading cylindrical chamber models offering 100 to 400 litre capacity and top loading autoclaves available with 60 and 85 litre sterilising capacities. Where larger sterilising capacities are required Priorclave has introduced rectangular chamber autoclaves with capacities up to 850 litres.

Each model will incorporate the very latest version of Tactrol® 3, a microprocessor controller developed by Priorclave for easy programming of a

sterilising cycle. In the Base range there are 5 Programmable Memories. Other standard benefits of include built-in cooling and free-steaming systems, drain protection (required by many building codes and not necessary standard on all cost-conscious autoclaves currently available) and a USB connect to download data. Base models are supplied pre-piped to accommodate an optional air intake filtration system if required.

Autoclave models in the new ranges will still appeal to the same diverse customer base involved in food and drink, dairy, pharmaceutical, agriculture, education, healthcare and research establishments. And they will continue to offer a superior anti-microbial exterior finish to body panels and frames, this highly effective and permanent treatment provides life-long control of harmful bacteria and protection against the threat of cross contamination.

Priorclave is renowned for the build quality of its steam sterilisers, the exacting standards maintained at every stage of production ensures the operational longevity of every research grade laboratory autoclave. And all supported by Priorclave’s first class after sales technical support.

Colony Counter with Detachable Tablet Ideal for Daily Laboratory Use

Regular colony counts are part of the day-to-day tasks of many laboratories in order to rule out the contamination of products with bacteria, viruses, yeasts, or moulds during production. To do this, Petri dishes containing the relevant samples are evaluated in order to determine the number of colonies formed. While the classic manual counting method means that every single colony has to be marked individually, automatic devices can analyse numerous Petri dishes of the same type very quickly. However, this requires time-consuming programming and preparation that may not be feasible if there is a small batch of samples. As of June 2021, help is at hand with the ColonyStar automatic from Funke-Gerber. The device, which is equipped with a camera and a cordless, detachable tablet, makes the analysis of Petri dishes both fast and straightforward. The unique assist mode is particularly helpful: After tapping on a colony via touchscreen, other colonies of the same type are automatically recorded, marked, and counted. The selection can be corrected at any time. The lab worker retains full control while also achieving huge time savings.

In order to mark 200 colonies, for example, only between four and 15 actions are necessary. The system can still be trained to identify selected colonies so that fully automatic colony counts can be conducted on predefined samples. Therefore, one can analyse ten to 15 Petri dishes containing the same species on the same agar media and then, after the learning phase, save it as a profile, such as Salmonella. Colonies of the same type that match these can then be analysed fully automatically.

WalkLAB pH meter HP9010 and Conductivity meter HC9021 from Trans Instruments

Trans Instruments (TTBH Pte Ltd), a specialist manufacturer of pH and conductivity instrumentation for over 30 years, announces the WalkLAB HP9010 pH meter and HC9021 Conductivity meter.

Designed with accuracies matching that of benchtop meters, yet fully portable for onsite use, these meters have a large and simple to navigate backlit LCD display in a rugged ABS casing, which is fully splash and weather proof and has an IP rating of 65. It is simple to use with each measurement automated with an auto-lock system that will display a stabilised endpoint reading. This unique feature allows users, even inexperienced ones, to make calibration and take measurements with minimum handling, temperature or sensor stability errors. Calibration data are stored in non-volatile memory, where in the event of battery removal, data is not erased. It can to store up to 99 sets of measured data memory for pH, mV and temperature stamped with date and time. Users can download stored memory or make continuous data logging on a PC with the optional USB connection kit that comes with an interface software.

The HP9010 pH meter is capable of 5 point calibrations with automatic buffer recognition. Two groups of standards can be selected from ISO standard pH7.00, 4.01 and 10.01 or NIST standard of 6.86, 9.18 etc. Users are able to review the calibration offset and percentage of slope of the electrode. The meter can be attached with an ORP electrode to make redox measurement in millivolts.

The HC9021 conductivity meter is able to make 5 point calibrations over the full range and measured readings are automatically switched to the calibrated range at each of the calibrated point. This greatly enhances the accuracy of the measurement over the entire range. The meter can display units in ppm and conversion factors are adjustable if required. Salinity measurement can be made by switching the display mode to display in ppt, where a separate calibration can be made in NaCl calibration standards.

Both meters are made where ease of use, repeatability and robustness are fundamentals to educational, industrial, textile, aquaculture, commercial and professional users.
