Fluorescent dyes expand immunology panels
Bio-Rad Laboratories has unveiled the fi rst in a fresh series of fl uorescent dyes designed specifi cally for spectral fl ow cytometry, giving immunologists greater freedom when building multicolour panels.
The launch begins with StarBright UltraViolet700 (SBUV700), a dye optimised for use with spectral instruments. Over the coming months, additional dyes will follow, all tailored to deliver distinctive spectral signatures and strong emission peaks that enhance multiplexing potential.
To support immunology workfl ows, Bio-Rad
has conjugated the new dyes to highly validated antibodies against 46 relevant markers - including 13 that are newly available in the StarBright collection. These additions open opportunities for deeper immune profi ling and the interrogation of complex cell populations.
StarBright dyes are known for their high brightness and narrow excitation/emission profi les, reducing spectral overlap while improving resolution. The new range maintains compatibility across instruments, from Bio-Rad’s ZE5 Cell Analyzer to most other fl ow cytometers and cell sorters, enabling seamless integration
into both existing and exploratory panel designs.

With more than 30 dyes now available, Bio- Rad continues to broaden its fl uorescent dye offering, directly supporting immunology research at the single-cell level.

Keep quality control running when calibration checks fail
Nothing disrupts a working day in quality control faster than a failed calibration check just before measurements are about to begin. Samples are ready, schedules are tight, and results are expected – but testing comes to a halt before the fi rst measurement even starts.
In many QC laboratories, this scenario triggers a familiar chain reaction. Instruments are taken out of operation. Testing is postponed. Deadlines slip. Valuable resources are wasted while waiting for a service technician to restore operability.
Mokon, an international leader in high- quality circulating liquid temperature control systems since 1955, has introduced two new refrigerants, R-454B and R-513A, designed for lower environmental impact and reliable process control. Available in portable chillers and full-range systems, they offer cooling capacities up to 60 tons while reducing greenhouse gas heat-trapping, resulting in refrigerants with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
Both refrigerants are low in toxicity and contain no ozone-depleting chemicals. They comply with US government standards requiring a GWP below 700, with R-454B at 446 and R-513A at 572.
“Our two new refrigerants have been rigorously tested to deliver the same high quality Mokon systems are known for, while staying well within GWP standards,” said Dan Healy, Mokon General Manager. “We will continue to support all existing systems, including R-407C and R-134A. Parts and gas will remain available for several years, and customers can continue to service and repair their units.”
