6 High-precision GPC/SEC triple detector

Testa Analytical has introduced Trinity, a state-of-the-art triple detector platform designed to push Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) to new heights. This system delivers comprehensive, accurate insights into macromolecules - from proteins and polysaccharides to synthetic polymers.

Unlike standard GPC/SEC setups, Trinity doesn’t just measure molecular weight. Its integrated Differential Refractive Index (DRI), Multi-Angle Light Scattering (MALS), and Viscometer detectors provide absolute molecular weight, intrinsic viscosity, and Mark- Houwink coefficients. This combination allows researchers to probe chain flexibility, molecular density, and branching with confidence, revealing structural details that go far beyond conventional analysis.

Precision and reproducibility are at the heart of Trinity. Each detector features independent temperature control, ensuring consistent performance day after day. Paired with intuitive, feature-rich software, Trinity makes it easy to capture, analyse,

and visualise complex data without compromising on detail.

For labs seeking a deeper understanding of macromolecular architecture, Trinity offers a robust, reliable, and user-friendly solution for high- level GPC/SEC analysis.

Expanded HPLC system enhances spectral insights for biopharma QC

Waters Corporation has added photodiode array (PDA) detection to its Alliance iS Bio HPLC product line, further supporting spectral analysis for biopharmaceutical development and quality control.

The enhanced system delivers up to 80× greater out-of-the-box sensitivity when paired with MaxPeak™ Premier columns, improves reproducibility more than threefold, and reduces carryover by up to two orders of magnitude. PDA detection enables multi-wavelength analysis, impurity profiling, and peak purity assessment.

Designed to minimise user error and streamline workflows, the platform is available in four configurations for small- and large-molecule analysis. It is fully compatible with Waters’ Empower™ Chromatography Data System and laboratory information management systems (LIMS). The system has also been awarded ACT environmental certification by My Green Lab.

Twenty years ago, Restek was the first to bring chromatographers the pioneering Restek Biphenyl LC column. Trailblazing a new approach to LC separations, the Restek Biphenyl LC column’s exceptionally unique selectivity made it possible to achieve better separations than were possible on traditional C18 columns or other phenyl chemistries.

The innovative Biphenyl (USP L11) is Restek’s most popular LC stationary phase because it is particularly adept at separating compounds that are hard to resolve or that elute early on other popular phases. As a result, rugged Biphenyl LC columns are extremely useful for fast separations - even of isobars - in challenging analyses, especially those that require a mass spectrometer (MS). The Restek Biphenyl LC column’s heightened selectivity makes it a go-to choice as a starting column in method development and eliminates the need for complex mobile phases that are not well suited for MS detection.

New innovation in GC gas generation technology

Peak Scientific, a leading manufacturer of gas generation solutions, has launched their newest series of products for GC instruments. The range of hydrogen, nitrogen and zero air generators are a premium, on-demand solution for labs who are looking to increase their productivity and quality of their analysis.

Following on from - and improving upon - their flagship GC package, the Precision series, Peak have designed and manufactured a range of generators which offer GC labs flexibility when it comes to flow rate, gas type, pressure, and much more. Intura is designed for labs who need high-purity carrier and detector gas in a compact, space saving footprint for their GC.

Peak’s GC Product Manager, Dr Ed Connor, said: “Overall, we have significantly reduced the size and footprint of the generators as well as managing to achieve a much lower power consumption across the series, compared with the product’s predecessor. We’ve also introduced a new CAT chamber design, improved PSA dryer for our hydrogen offerings, and introduced our patented AirMax intake filter in our nitrogen and zero air generators to ensure the best performance for our customers.”

Intura embodies innovation in lab gas generation engineering technology which maximises uptime and delivers a premium offering for customers to aid in their critical work.

LC columns for challenging compound separations

First ACT™ Platinum LC systems with torque-controlled fittings

Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced enhanced Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC systems – the first liquid chromatography platforms to earn a Platinum ACT™ Sustainability Ecolabel from My Green Lab. The upgraded systems are designed to combine smarter usability, higher productivity, and stronger environmental performance across a wide range of analytical applications.

A standout feature is the torque-controlled Viper™ TQ UHPLC fitting, which provides a simple, tool-free connection that gives an audible click when secured. By preventing leaks – one of the most common causes of downtime and sample loss – the system helps users maintain data integrity and reduce waste.

The platform also includes new sustainability-minded updates such as smaller eluent filters, an energy-efficient active pre-heater, and recyclable packaging. Together, these improvements cut material waste while supporting reproducible, high-throughput separations.

The optional Vanquish Sample Hub expands automated operation, holding up to 23 racks and enabling extended unattended runs. Smart vial-bottom detection and an intuitive touchscreen interface help simplify setup, operation, and maintenance – reducing training demands for busy lab teams.

Used across pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, food, environmental, and academic settings, the upgraded Vanquish systems reflect Thermo Fisher’s broader commitment to enabling more sustainable, efficient, and reliable analytical workflows. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/xDGZ
