46 Sustainable temperature control systems with CO2 refrigerant
Peter Huber Kältemaschinenbau SE has unveiled its next-generation Unistat temperature control systems, integrating cutting-edge technologies to deliver enhanced efficiency and sustainability. The updated Unistats now come with a 4-year warranty and offer ‘Green Line’ models utilising CO2
refrigerant (R-744). These environmentally-friendly units feature zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP = 0),
minimal Global Warming Potential (GWP = 1), and non-flammability, providing a 100% sustainable alternative to systems using synthetic refrigerants. Covering applications from laboratory research to industrial production, Huber’s range of natural refrigerant solutions is unparalleled in liquid temperature control.
The new Unistats feature a reduced internal filling volume, significantly decreasing heating and cooling times. This enhancement improves ‘time-to-temperature’ and overall response times, allowing for more efficient processing. The systems are now equipped with state-of-the-art, magnetically coupled circulation pumps that deliver high flow rates for optimal heat transfer. Enhanced venting and degassing functions ensure quick commissioning and smooth, uninterrupted operation. Safety and connectivity have also seen major upgrades. All safety features meet or exceed performance level C standards (DIN EN ISO 13849-1). The new ‘Com.G@te DIGITAL’ module is included as standard, offering common digital interfaces and improved temperature measurement accuracy. Connectivity options can be expanded with additional modules and gateways, including the optional ‘Com.G@te PLUS’ for analogue interfaces.
Huber’s hydraulically sealed Unistats support wide temperature ranges without the need for fluid changes. They prevent oil vapours and oxidation of heat transfer fluids (HTF), extending the lifespan of the HTF. The systems are designed with sustainable energy management in mind, featuring low power and water consumption that translates to reduced operating costs. A compact housing design minimises the footprint, making these units ideal for space-constrained laboratories and production facilities.
Since early 2024, all Huber temperature control units, including the new Unistats, come with an extended 4-year warranty. To activate the warranty, customers simply need to register the unit’s serial number within three months of delivery. Unistat process circulators offer cooling capacities from 0.48 to 130 kW, making them perfect for demanding thermal process engineering tasks. Their versatility ensures smooth scale-up from research laboratories to full-scale production environments.

Advanced rotary evaporators for separation and purification
The Wiggens Strike Series Rotary Evaporators combine exceptional operational performance with ergonomic design, making them perfect for tasks involving separation, concentration, and purification. These versatile evaporators are designed to scale from laboratory use to pilot plant operations, supporting evaporation flasks of up to 100L. Wiggens offers a comprehensive range of models, from standard units to explosion-proof, ATEX-certified versions. For specialised applications, continuous distillation options are also available, ensuring solutions for all separation requirements.
The latest addition to the series, the lab-scale Strike 185, showcases a modern design paired with cutting-edge technology. A large, intuitive touch screen display enables users to monitor all functions effortlessly. Parameters can be adjusted via the touch screen, turning knob, or a combination of both for quick, precise fine-tuning. To improve efficiency, the integrated temperature controller, vacuum controller, and timer facilitate automated distillation programs, significantly reducing process time while ensuring precise control.
The Strike 185 operates at rotation speeds ranging from 20 to 300 rpm and supports heating temperatures up to 185°C. An independent safety circuit prevents overheating of the bath tank, while real-time monitoring of steam and cooling water temperatures is possible when temperature sensors are connected. The system accommodates evaporating and collection flasks in various volumes, and the heating bath tank can be adjusted horizontally up to 90mm to fit different flask sizes.

ilmt.co/PL/9kER Ultrasonic beverage flowmeter reaches key customer testing milestone
Titan Enterprises is spotlighting the critical customer testing phase in the development of its latest innovation: a low-cost ultrasonic beverage flowmeter tailored for OEM drinks dispensing systems.
Created in response to a specific OEM request, the new ultrasonic meter had to meet stringent design criteria: compact size, food-grade materials, low cost, hygienic operation with no internal moving parts, and seamless integration into existing setups.
“This project isn’t just about building a flowmeter - it’s about solving an industry problem,” said Neil Hannay, Senior Development Engineer at Titan Enterprises. Drawing on their success with turbine flowmeters, Titan explored ultrasonic technology as a more robust solution for beverage applications, resulting in a new meter within the Atrato®
flowmeter family.
Titan’s R&D strategy places strong emphasis on real-world feedback. “In the lab, we work from first principles, but we can’t replicate a customer’s operating environment,” Neil explains. “Customer testing is essential to creating a product that performs reliably in the field and delivers features that truly matter to the user.”
After internal validation, prototype meters are supplied for field trials, allowing OEM partners to assess performance under real operational stresses. This testing phase is key to refining elements such as fluid compatibility, mechanical durability, and fault tolerance. It also builds customer confidence and clarifies expectations around performance and cost.
Feedback from field use informs iterative design improvements and ensures the final product meets both technical and commercial requirements. “The loop between our engineering team and the customer’s application is vital,” adds Neil. “We’re not just aiming for functionality - we’re aiming for perfect fit.”
Titan’s collaborative, feedback-driven approach accelerates product readiness and supports the creation of precision-engineered, cost-effective flow solutions tailored to OEM needs. With R&D spending over three times the industry average, Titan continues to lead in advancing liquid flow measurement technologies.
