43 Biotechnology & Immunology Fluorescent dyes expand immunology panels

Bio-Rad Laboratories has unveiled the first in a fresh series of fluorescent dyes designed specifically for spectral flow cytometry, giving immunologists greater freedom when building multicolour panels.

The launch begins with StarBright UltraViolet700 (SBUV700), a dye optimised for use with spectral instruments. Over the coming months, additional dyes will follow, all tailored to deliver distinctive spectral signatures and strong emission peaks that enhance multiplexing potential.

To support immunology workflows, Bio-Rad has conjugated the new dyes to highly validated antibodies against 46 relevant markers - including 13 that are newly available in the StarBright collection. These additions open opportunities for deeper immune profiling and the interrogation of complex cell populations.

StarBright dyes are known for their high brightness and narrow excitation/emission profiles, reducing spectral overlap while improving resolution. The new range maintains compatibility across instruments, from Bio-Rad’s ZE5 Cell Analyzer to most other flow cytometers and cell sorters, enabling seamless integration into both existing and exploratory panel designs.

Hilary Mavor, Marketing Director in Bio-Rad’s Life Science Group, commented: “Researchers want the ability to build larger, more sophisticated multicolour panels. By extending our StarBright portfolio, we’re equipping immunologists with tools that not only expand choice but also simplify the design of complex spectral panels.”

With more than 30 dyes now available, Bio-Rad continues to broaden its fluorescent dye offering, directly supporting immunology research at the single-cell level. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/1V28

Rapid IgG subclass quantifi cation kit

Abselion has introduced its Protein G Total Antibody Quantifi cation Kit for the Amperia™ platform, enabling fast, accurate measurement of antibodies across multiple IgG subclasses and species. The ready-to-use kit simplifi es workfl ows for researchers and developers, providing reliable titres without complex equipment or training.

The system uses Protein G-coated sensor strips to capture antibodies directly from samples. Bound analytes generate an electrochemical signal read instantly by Amperia, producing reliable quantitative data in a fraction of the time of traditional methods. The Protein G kit expands the platform’s compatibility with humanised, rodent, and engineered antibodies, supporting efficient antibody discovery and development workflows.

Hybrid pipette delivers manual precision and fast electronic aliquoting

Integra Biosciences launches the SWITCH hybrid pipette in September 2025 – a breakthrough tool designed to end the compromise between control and speed in liquid handling. With SWITCH, scientists can move effortlessly between manual pipetting and fast electronic repeat dispensing using a single ergonomic device.

Manual pipettes give researchers the fi ne control needed for delicate steps such as mixing or supernatant removal, but can be slow and fatiguing for repetitive workfl ows like aliquoting. Electronic pipettes solve that problem with programmable repeat dispensing, but often at the cost of complex setup and less intuitive use. SWITCH combines the strengths of both, offering the familiar feel of a manual pipette with the speed and effi ciency of an electronic device – without changing established lab practices.

The hybrid pipette is built around a thumb-operated plunger that stays at the same height across all volume settings, eliminating excessive stretching. In repeat dispense mode it lowers further for effortless, button-like operation. This ergonomic design reduces strain while delivering comfort, control and precision. A quick set ring allows one-handed volume adjustments, and an easy-to-read display shows real-time aspiration volumes.

SWITCH uses Integra’s GRIPTIPS® pipette tips for secure, strain-free tip loading and ejection. It includes USB-C charging – even during use – ensuring all-day performance. The pipette is also compatible with the Flex charging stand, which holds and powers up to six SWITCH pipettes simultaneously, available in both rotary and linear formats to fi t different lab setups.

By blending precision with effi ciency, SWITCH streamlines complex workfl ows, minimises hand strain, and integrates smoothly into existing laboratory routines.
