42 New shelving system boosts incubator capacity for advanced cell therapies

In response to the accelerating advancements and popularity of advanced therapy techniques, Thermo Scientific has unveiled the ground-breaking CultiMaxx™ Shelving System. This innovative solution is tailored to address the increasing demand for faster research and production within laboratories. The system is specifically designed to boost the capacity of incubators utilising the four most common cell culture production vessels.

The CultiMaxx™ shelving system is compatible with Thermo Scientific™ Heracell™ VIOS™ 250i and Thermo Scientific™ Forma™ Steri-Cycle i250 CO2 incubators, allowing for a remarkable 150% increase in G-Rex bioreactors without compromising performance. This enhancement is applicable

across various incubator models and vessel types, providing scientists the flexibility to scale up their production of cell therapies in accordance with their preferred methods.

Douglas Wernerspach, Senior Business Director and General Manager - CO2 Incubators at Thermo Fisher Scientific, emphasised the significance of

this advancement in the field of regenerative medicine. “Cell therapy is only at its beginning of transforming human health,” he stated. “Laboratories working in regenerative medicine will be challenged to keep pace with increased demand over the coming years. CultiMaxx Shelving Systems are an ideal offering for these scientists who want to scale up production of cultured cells quickly and efficiently, while retaining their current lab footprint.”

The CultiMaxx System is engineered to accommodate more batches and improve vessel accessibility for large vessels, including 1L or other cell culture bags, Thermo Scientific Nunc™ Cell Factory™ systems with 10 or 13 layers, Thermo Scientific Nunc Cell Factory systems with 4 layers, and G-Rex® bioreactors from Wilson Wolf Corporation when used with select Thermo Scientific CO2 More information online: ilmt.co/PL/EVzV

New heavy-duty balance: Stronger, easier to use and better-connected

Adam Equipment will be at this year’s analytica show to unveil its new Luna LBL Heavy-Duty Precision Balance. With more connectivity options than ever, along with an improved precision load cell and rigid frame for better accuracy, the LBL offers more than the Nimbus NBL it replaces. It will be available to order from May. The LBL boasts RS-232 and USB connectivity for sending GLP-compliant reports to printers and PCs. New from Adam is the RJ45 ethernet output, meaning the balance can be connected to a computer network. Later this year, Bluetooth connectivity will be an option.

As with the Nimbus NBL range the Luna LBL replaces, all models come with 0.1g accuracy. However, capacity options now include a higher 34kg model – as well as 14kg and 24kg offerings. An improved precision load cell as well as a rigid frame provides better accuracy at high resolution, underneath a grade 304 stainless steel weighing pan.

Weighing results appear on a larger display – taken from Adam’s standard Luna balance range – with large, 24mm-high white digits on a contrasting black background. This makes readings clearer, even from distances. As with Adam’s established Luna balance range, functions and weighing modes like percentage weighing, dynamic weighing, checkweighing, check counting and density determination have all been made easier to access and use.

An optional weigh-below hook allows suspended weighing to be carried out.

Also new for the Luna LBL is an optional rechargeable battery, plus the display detaches and can be mounted to a wall or worktop. A lockdown device prevents unauthorised users accessing the device.

The LBL’s warranty cover, in line with the rest of the Adam Luna range, is five years.

Adam’s Product Manager, Shaun Barker, said: “The Adam Luna LBL Heavy Duty Precision Balance is perfect for demanding weighing applications in laboratories. It’s stronger, easier to use and better- connected, and with a 5-year warranty, demonstrates that this is a balance you can trust. We can’t wait to unveil it at Analytica, and let delegates see and try it for themselves.”
