28 GAS DETECTION
New range of gas sensors
NDIR sensors offer versatility with reliability
Dynament’s range of nondispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors provides detection capabilities for hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and refrigerants and are ideal for integration into original equipment manufacturers gas detection products. The Dynament NDIR sensors offer world class performance in the harshest of environments, across a wide temperature and humidity range. Dynament sensors are approved to global standards and meet SIL1 safety certifi cations.
The miniature sensors contain all the necessary optics, electronics, and fi rmware to provide a linearised, temperature-compensated output and offer a choice of output formats that allow for quick integration into any gas detection offering. Dynament sensors are also available in low-power versions, making the sensor ideal for battery and solar powered applications.
Dynament is pleased to offer the only dual-gas smart sensor on the market. A single sensor provides the capability of measuring up-to 0-100% volume methane, 0-2% volume propane and 0-5% volume carbon dioxide. Dynament also offers ATEX and IECEx Exd certifi ed explosion-proof housings for integration into certifi ed junction boxes or OEM gas detector enclosures.
DD-Scientifi c is pleased to announce the launch of its latest product designed to protect workers in hazardous environments. The new SE+CO is a highly reliable and repeatable electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor optimised for use in industrial safety applications and brings with it DD-Scientifi c’s decades of experience in providing cost effective solutions for gas detection OEMs. The sensor quickly responds to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and is ideal for use in portable detectors deployed in oil and gas plants, mines, chemical works, steel mills and confi ned space entry.
The SE+CO is designed to be the fi rst in a new range of sensors from DD-Scientifi c and will be followed shortly by sensors optimised for other toxic gas dangers.

New sensor can “see” over a hundred hydrocarbon gases

A sophisticated new gas detector that can spot even minute traces of more than 100 hydrocarbon gases has been introduced by Sensor Electronics.
Carrying full CSA performance-tested approval, this new detector is particularly well-suited for off-shore platforms, pumping stations, pipelines, refi neries, fuel dumps, petrochemical plants, waste-water treatment facilities – or wherever a gas leak could mean explosion or death.
Calibration is a breeze. The new detector simply sniffs a sample of the suspect gas – methane as an example, – then automatically locks itself onto methane’s particular infrared “signature.” Then any methane concentration over a pre-set threshold triggers an immediate alarm. Simply showing the detector a different gas – such as propane – will register its IR “signature.” Such a changeover for any hydrocarbon gas can be done in seconds.
In operation, the detector continually monitors the ambient atmosphere. Any trace of a suspect gas is immediately sensed by twin tuned IR sensors. Built-in circuitry automatically compensates for aging components and changing environments.
This new sensor uses simple optics (no mirrors or beam splitters) so it shrugs off rain and snow, fog and smog making it ideal for use under adverse weather conditions. Nor is it affected by temperature extremes, high hydrocarbon vapor levels or low oxygen atmospheres.
Besides conventional hydrocarbon vapours – gasoline, methane, butane, ethanol, kerosene, jet fuel – the sensor can also spot others such as diesel, propane etc. Output is 4-20 mA, to drive computers, plotters, printers, recorders and the like.
