10th Eco Expo Asia Confi rms Double-Digit Visitor Growth as Green Industry Continues to Expand

The 10th edition of Eco Expo Asia concluded with great success on 31 October 2015 at the AsiaWorld-Expo. The fair, which ran from 28 – 31 October, was organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and received full support from the Environment Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the co-organiser. This year, the event welcomed a record-breaking 320 exhibitors as well as 12,385 trade visitors, a 14% increase from last year. The pool of visitors represented 97 countries and regions including the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, India, the US, Japan, Malaysia and Iran, reinforcing Eco Expo Asia’s position as the preeminent trade platform for green businesses in Asia.

The show continues to receive support from governments and related organisations in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and across Asia. Mr CY Leung, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, offi ciated at the opening ceremony. He said: “Since its launch, Eco Expo Asia has served as a premier showcase for the latest environmental products and services from Hong Kong, the Mainland of China, throughout Asia and around the world. More than 30 delegations of the Mainland of China are present here, underlining the value they see in Eco Expo Asia.”

Opening with the new theme “Embracing a Green and Sustainable Future” this year, the 2015 edition hosted new pavilions from the State of Illinois and Taiwan, alongside those returning from the Chinese mainland, the EU, Hong Kong, Japan and Switzerland as well as a participation from the Netherlands. Together with other leading companies and brands that also attended, buyers were offered an extensive selection of in-demand products that matched the latest environmental initiatives in Asia.

Strong exhibitor and delegation line-up fulfi lled demands for waste management, energy effi ciency and green building solutions

Sustainable development continues to draw a high-level of international attention. The fair has attracted top industry players and 55 delegations from various sectors. These experts from the waste management and recycling, energy effi ciency, green building as well as the air and water quality sectors offered their distinctive green solutions at the fair.

First-time exhibitor Molok Oy from Finland of the EU Pavilion provides clean and economical solutions for effi cient and environmentally friendly waste collection. Ms Saritta Duhamel, Controller of Global Activities for the company, said: “We chose Eco Expo Asia as our fi rst stop in entering the East Asia market. We have met potential customers from the Chinese mainland, Indonesia, India, Malaysia and South Korea, which was a successful turnout for our company. China’s eco market is booming and I am optimistic about the industry prospects as well as the future of our business in Asia.”

With more countries pushing ahead with clean energy policies, a Hong Kong company, Robin Energy Ltd, presented their WindArc – a self-sustaining vertical wind turbine street light system that is equipped with a magnetic resistant-free generator. Mr Victor Cheung, Executive Director of the company, commented: “Eco Expo Asia has a concentrated buyer base and is the most relevant to our business compared to other similar shows in Macau and India. We met about 30 potential distributors from countries such as Europe, North America and Singapore on just the fi rst day, which is a very satisfactory number.”

This much is clear: The 25th analytica is going to be more international than ever. As of right now, the number of exhibitors from countries other than Germany that have registered for the fair is up by 27 percent over two years ago. The United States accounts for a large share of that increase (32 percent). So far 789 companies have confi rmed their participation (compared to 727 in 2013). That is an increase of 8.5 percent. analytica takes place in Munich from May 10–13, 2016.

Susanne Grödl, Exhibition Director of analytica: “Given these numbers, there is no question that analytica is the gathering for the international laboratory technology, analysis and biotechnology industry.” The share of international exhibitors is currently 49 percent. Besides the increase in exhibitors from the United States, the number of companies from Italy is up by 30 percent. China will have three large joint exhibition stands at the fair, and India will have one joint exhibit. Once again,

the industry’s main event will bring leading German and international manufacturers to Munich again in 2016. In the laboratory technology sector, major laboratory furniture manufacturers such as Köttermann and Waldner will be joined by other companies such as Asecos and Düperthal. Bruker, Büchi, Carl Zeiss Jena, Deutsche Metrohm, Mettler Toledo Merck Millipore, Netzsch Gerätebau, Shimadzu, Thermo and Waters will present solutions in the analysis and quality-control sector. The manufacturers and research organizations representing the biotech and diagnostics industry in Hall A3 will include Becton Dickison, Sartorius and Germany’s largest biotech cluster, i.e. Bayern Innovativ.

International fl air will also be noticeable at the analytica conference, the fair’s scientifi c highlight. Renowned researchers from around the world will speak about analysis trends in chemistry and the life sciences. Among other things, this year’s program will include sessions titled “Separation techniques: How many dimensions are enough?”, “Analytical challenges from implementing consumer-oriented legislation”, “Lab-on-chip technologies” and “Disruptive imaging technologies.” The conference is organized by Forum Analytik—an alliance of Germany’s three leading scientifi c associations, i.e. the German Chemical Society (GDCh), the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) and the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL).

The fair also features a number of related events that deal with issues from everyday laboratory practice. In 2014, the special show on occupational safety and health and safety in the workplace was a popular attraction from the very beginning and was attended by more than 4,000 visitors: 97 percent of those visitors gave it a rating of good to excellent. There is no question that it will be part of the program of events again in 2016. In addition, visitors can also look forward to the Live Labs, the analytica forums with tips for actual practice, the theme day on personalized medicine and Finance Day. Once again, Klinker & Partner are organizing a training program for those with a thirst for knowledge. And on Friday, future industry professionals can fi nd out what the industry of the future has to offer at analytica Job Day and Student Day.
