British Design Helps Safety Professionals Meet Compliance with Noise at Work Regulations

NOVA, Pulsar’s latest safety professional handheld sound level meter is a perfect tool for compliant noise testing and sampling around the workplace as it is designed to provide busy HSE professionals with the main parameters required under the Regulations quickly, on one screen at all times. The meters are perfect for monitoring noise levels in a variety of work environments, with the view to collecting evidence and helping to address any noise at work issues.

When it comes to expertise in noise measurement, Pulsar Instruments have become the name to look out for. This range of six sound meters combine the latest in digital technology and software development with the best of British engineering, making them ideal for both environmental and occupational noise applications.

The meters, designed and manufactured in Yorkshire are ideal for Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) professionals seeking to meet the noise at work standards and regulations, and enable users to benefit from over 45 years of expertise in industrial and occupational noise measurement. The Nova offer an extensive selection of measurement functions and are compliant to the IEC 61672-1 standard for Class 1 and Class 2 sound level meters.

The NOVA is in keeping with the philosophy of Pulsar which is to produce simple to use meters that can make accurate measurements even in the hands of an unskilled user. The meters are also realistically priced without compromising on quality and durability.

NOVA is a major advance in noise at work measurement and offers: Exceptional battery life, typically 30 hours on standard alkaline AA cells, High definition colour OLED, large anti-glare display, 4GB removable memory card, Dynamic range of 20dB(A) to 140dB(A) and 143dB(C), Rugged die-cast metal case, Simultaneous measurement of all key parameters, Unique calibration prompt, and Standard and advanced data viewing methods.

Great care has been taken to make the NOVA a cut above the rest. Its menu structure has been much simplified from previous units. The intuitive design means that no learning time is required to make a basic noise measurement reading and all the parameters required are displayed to view at the touch of a button.

Once the measurements have been taken, they can be transferred to a PC using Pulsar AnalyzerPlus software. Pulsar Nova AnalyzerPlus software enables data recording via an external computer. With features that provide monitoring, reporting and management of noise measurement data - the Pulsar AnalyzerPlus reporting software delivers a clear, quick and accurate overview of your noise testing and a reliable alternative to restrictive and costly manual recording. Users can select from a wide variety of functions such as places, people and time periods over which to store and present their results. Also available is a Hearing Defender tab which is where the measurement is used to find Hearing Defenders that are most suited to solving the noise problem. Time History data can be exported into .cvs files. Overall reports are saved as .pdf files which can then be imported directly to a wide range of programmes for presentation purposes as part of management reports.

Pulsar Instruments has developed a reputation for producing durable, practical precision equipment that can perform in any environment. The company is responsible for all after-sales and recalibration services, and spare parts, software updates and ongoing support are always available. Pulsar are an ISO 9001:2008 Certified Company (Certificate FS517347), so customers can be confident that Pulsar noise monitoring solutions will always live up to, if not exceed, your expectations.

R&B Industrial undertake Workplace Noise Assessments, meeting the requirement of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations (2005), in order to evaluate and advise on appropriate measures to manage the risk.

The R&B Engineering team have particular expertise in providing design, installation of LEV Systems & Noise Control Solutions.Their approach can reduce costs as duplication of engineering design and consultancy across multiple organisations is avoided, facilitating efficient communication and administration. This can include for example enclosures, attenuation, dampening etc.

R&B Industrial can also offer the following services, in conjunction with a Noise Survey, as part of a single cost-effective package: Personal Air Monitoring Surveys

providing compliance with COSHH Regulation 10, ‘Swab’ samples can also be taken for assessing health/skin absorption risk, Qualitative & quantitative Face Fit (for RPE) & Breathing Air (BA) Testing, Stack Emissions Monitoring, DSEAR & Fire Risk Assessments and Hazardous Area Classification, including advice on ATEX compliance and guidance on reducing the extent of zones (this can be coordinated with assessment and implementation of COSHH controls), and LEV Initial Assessments and Thorough Examination and Testing.
