Easy-To-Operate Flow Meter with High Accuracy
The NivuFlow 600, from NIVUS GmbH (Germany), was designed particularly for flow metering in full pipelines. To meet the highest accuracy requirements it is possible to equip the transmitter with up to 28
measurement paths. Pipe sensors as well as contactless clamp-on sensors are available for various
measurement jobs. It is however not
necessary to interrupt running processes to install both sensor types. The measurement system is particularly suitable to measure the flow rates of various liquid media in a wide range of applications.
The considerably smaller enclosure, compared to its predecessor, saves space being installed in control cabinets thanks to easy DIN rail mounting. Moreover, the NivuFlow 600 units are available in a special field enclosure designed for use in rough ambient conditions.
The transmitter’s large graphic display permits quick and easy commissioning of the flow meter. It provides extended diagnostic options and allows in-depth analyses of running processes directly on site.
The transmitter software was reprogrammed from scratch. Thanks to using future-proof protocols and versatile options for communication and integration, operators have considerable scope when it comes to integrate the NivuFlow 600 into higher systems such as SCADA or process conducting systems.

Reference Method Specified within European Drinking Water Directive
IDEXX (USA) has recently announced that its total coliform/E. coli test - Colilert-18/Quanti-Tray (ISO 9308-2:2012), for the 18 hour detection of
E.coli and total coliforms in water, has been specified as a reference method, under EN ISO 9308-2, in the European Drinking Water Directive 2015/1787. The amendment of the annexes II and III of the Council Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption has now been published in the European Official Journal, after being adopted by the European Commission on October 6th, 2015, and came into force on October 27th, 2015. The text has to be transposed into national legislation within a period of 24 months by the EC Member States, by October 27th, 2017 at the latest.
The Colilert-18 test became the ISO 9308-2 standard for the detection of
E.coli and total coliforms in water in 2012, and later as EN ISO 9308-2 in 2014, following extensive validation, and provides quantified results in as little as 18 hours with no further confirmation of results required. It is also U.S. EPA-approved and approved and included in Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater. The amendment to the European Drinking Water Directive now states that “EN ISO 9308-2 (Colilert-18) provides all necessary specifications for performing the enumeration of E. coli and total coliform bacteria.” The full text of the Commission Directive 2015/1787 can be found in the Official Journal of the European Union in 23 different languages.
“Colilert-18 is a very effective and accurate test, and is already relied upon by water utility companies around the globe to deliver clean water to millions of consumers,” commented Philippe Rousselin, EMEA Regulatory Manager, for IDEXX Water. “Its inclusion as a reference method in the revised European Drinking Water Directive marks a major milestone in the product’s regulatory success, as we seek to widen its adoption into new markets.”
With its high sensitivity, specificity and rapid results, giving accurate and fast indications of any potential faecal contamination, Colilert-18 is simple to use and minimal amounts of training and equipment are required to allow operatives to set up and interpret the results in just 18 hours.
The product consists of a reagent powder, which is added to a standard 100ml water sample and then incubated for 18 hours in the case of presence/absence determination. This step takes less than 1 minute of hands-on time. The presence of E. coli and total coliforms is subsequently determined following incubation, with coliforms indicated by the sample turning yellow, and fluorescence indicating the presence of E. coli. Where quantification of a sample is required, IDEXX has developed a simple device known as a Quanti-Tray, which consists of 51 individually sealable cells. The Quanti-Tray can also be incubated for 18 hours after which the fluorescent cells can be counted and quantified.

The new AquaTel telemetry system from Aquaread (UK) takes a different approach removing all annual subscriptions and allowing you to own 100% of your data. This is achieved by simply sending emails containing the collected data direct to the customer’s email address or via SMS to a device such as a mobile phone. The included PC software then automatically adds this data to historic datasets providing the user with the ability to plot and manage all of their collected data in a similar way to the online portals. The added advantage of this approach is that the data generated is not copied or stored on a server potentially in a foreign country, so you truly can own your data.

The AquaTel system has some great new features that make life easy for both the customer using it and for the engineer installing it. For example, you can get a reading on the signal strength on the optional display or using the LEDs inside the device meaning you can be sure you have a good connection to the mobile network as you deploy the system. The optional display also gives you the current battery level, previous readings and the alert status while you are on site. Once installed you are able to communicate directly with the telemetry device using your mobile phone and predefined SMS / Email commands. These commands allow you to fully configure the logging protocol, set alert levels, get live measurements, set site IDs and even add contact phone numbers and email addresses for alert notifications. If you do not wish to set up via a mobile you can choose the settings you require in the PC application and then send the information to the AquaTel system straight from the app in the form of an email.
Not only is the unit designed to work seamlessly with all Aquaread products, but you can also connect up to 5 third party SDI- 12 measuring devices. With various options for powering the device including internal lithium batteries or external 12v as standard, it’s a very flexible telemetry system indeed.

The AquaTel is a key component in the LeveLine-EWS early warning system used to alert for rising water levels. Using the new LeveLine-Mini to record changes in the water level and temperature, the built in pressure sensor in the AquaTel unit provides fully compensated water level data that is used to send alerts when water levels rise.
