A fixed gas detector is permanently installed in a selected location to provide continuous monitoring. It is primarily used to give an early warning of gas hazards. Hazards can have several origins; the release of toxic gases, oxygen deficiency or enrichment, as well as the presence of combustible gases and vapours. Fixed detectors are particularly practical where there is the possibility of a leak into an enclosed or partially enclosed space, where flammable gases could accumulate and become dangerous.
All detectors have either analogue or digital inputs. By using the onboard or external relay outputs, a signal can be used to trigger industrial processes if a situation becomes dangerous. For example, starting extractor fans or turning off supply lines. When detected at an early stage, counter-measures can be initiated to protect personnel, equipment and the workplace.
