Hand Held Weather Stations
The Kestrel pocket weather meters from Richard Paul Russell (UK) offer the most complete range of accurate hand-held weather instruments on the market.
The range starts with the Kestrel 1000, the basic anemometer and goes through to a fully portable weather station which monitors 21 different environmental parameters, including wind direction and
density altitude.
The Kestrel 4000 series is able to log real time environmental data, with a storage capacity of up to 2000 data points.
All data can be sampled between two second and twelve hour intervals. Data may also be manually captured, allowing users to freeze readings. All sorted data is time and date stamped.
These units have the option of real time wireless data transfer, over a distance of up to 10 meters using Bluetooth®
technology or alternatively data can be uploaded to a PC via a Kestrel interface.
The ability to easily transfer data allows the user to run in-depth analysis and offers long-term storage.
All Kestrel units come with a patented impeller capable of responding to a breeze as low as 0.4 m/s and with an accuracy of +/-3%. In case of damage the impeller can be easily replaced by the user.
All models (with the exception of the Kestrel 1000 which measures solely wind speed) have a patented external thermometer.
Having it externally mounted, instead of embedded inside the case eliminates temperature error caused by heat from the user’s hand.
Additionally, all Kestrel Meters are fully waterproof and float, so they can be used to read water and snow temperatures by simply submerging the unit.
The patented humidity sensor configuration rapidly adjusts to abrupt and substantial changes in temperature and humidity. Relative humidity can be measured to +/- 3% accuracy over a broad range (5 to 95%RH).
Each Kestrel comes with a Certificate of Conformity to certify its accuracy to the performance specifications, providing assurance of precise and reliable readings.

Advanced Dynamic Rain Gauge Calibration and Production Capabilities
As part of its ongoing product improvement and development program, and in response to increasing demand for accurate measurement of high rainfall intensities, Casella (UK) has instigated a new fully automated dynamic calibration facility on its tipping bucket rain gauge production operation.
The new calibration procedure will automatically perform calibration at 4 points of rainfall intensity typically in the range 40-800mm/hr.
This allows them to offer users more detailed technical information on the product and improved service levels, and better meeting their product and delivery expectations.
All gauges will now be supplied with a printed multi point calibration certificate, essential for traceability of data and product performance auditing. Gauges are accurate to <2% at 40mm/h
A correction algorithm is now also provided as standard, this allows users to undertake correction of rainfall data at extremely high rainfall intensities if required.(<2% at 40mm/h).
With correction, all tipping buckets provide intensity errors of < 5% across the entire range of rainfall intensities in compliance with WMO requirements.
In addition to the calibration improvements, the funnel outlet diameter on the 0.2 and 0.5mm capacity buckets have been increased to remove funnel back up effects, reducing cost of ownership, and the need for service visits in the field.

Weather Stations with Web Based Controller
Pessl Instruments (Austria) are a manufacturer of environment monitoring devices, their iMETOS weather station is well known worldwide. These devices are
measuring meteorological data including; rainfall, temperature, relative humidity, global radiation, soil temperature, wind
speed, wind direction, soil moisture, barometric pressure and water levels. Thanks to Pessl Instruments chain interface the connection of various sensors is possible.
The iMetos station is powered by rechargeable batteries and a solar panel. iMETOS only requires a valid GPRS contract with good GSM coverage in the area to be operational. iMETOS reports its data to the internet climate data base of Pessl Instruments, where one can see and manage all your measured data. The newest member of iMetos product line is ICA 30/60, it’s a web based controller which uses internet technology to operate remotely the irrigation or automation system of a farm or a residential area. It can receive automatically daily ET data from a weather station near by and can be stopped immediately if the rain sensor on the ICA is triggered.

Cloud Cover Monitoring
ATMOS (France) has developed a range of instruments for cloud cover monitoring based on a passive infrared technology. This
range called (Cloud Infrared Radiometer) includes CIR4 (time series device) and CIR 13 (scanning device). These instruments have been deployed in various locations around the world for various purposes, from regular weather forecast, up to Atmospheric stability class in Air Quality applications. A scanning unit called CIR-M for cloud monitoring has been released and will be available to provide water contents of the atmosphere.
