8 Gas Detection New Portable Gas Detector - It’s What’s Inside that Counts


MSA (Germany) is proud to present the Altair 5X multi-gas detector with MSA XCell Sensor Technology. The Altair 5X can measure up to six gases simultaneously and can be fitted with a wide range of both toxic and infra-red sensors, providing the flexibility required to meet most applications.


At the heart of the Altair 5X are MSA’s XCell sensors, now with an extended range covering SO2, Cl2, and NH3. Superior stability and accuracy characterise the new MSA XCell sensors. They are remarkably long-lasting and the standard sensors are designed for an average life of more than four years (more than three years for SO2, Cl2, and NH3). These new sensors allow for faster response/clear times, bump tests in less than 10 seconds, and span calibration time of 60 seconds for common configurations, thanks to micro-electronics inside the sensor. XCell Sensors provide greater signal stability and repeatability under changing or extreme environmental conditions and are plug-and-play- capable. An end-of-sensor-life indicator gives advanced warning to user, eliminating service outages.


A rugged housing provides unsurpassed durability and with large, glove-friendly buttons and an optional high-contrast colour display, the Altair 5X is easy to operate in any work environment, even in low-light conditions. This is further with the option of a glow in the dark housing for all IR sensor equipped instruments. Unique features like MotionAlert and


InstantAlert are standard on the Altair 5X providing added user confidence when faced with applications like confined space entry. The Altair 5X is fully compatible with MSA’s Galaxy Automated Test System and MSA Link™ Software.

New, Versatile Multi-Gas Detector


Industrial Scientific (USA) have introduced the Ventis™ MX4 multi-gas detector. It is a lightweight, highly configurable instrument that is available with or without an integral pump and is compatible with iNet®


. iNet is Industrial Scientific’s unique Gas Detection as a Service solution.


The Ventis detects one to four gases including oxygen, combustible gases (LEL or CH4) and any two of the following toxic gases: CO, H2S, NO2 and SO2. Ideal for confined space monitoring and/or continuous personal monitoring in potentially hazardous environments, the instrument is designed to keep workers safe in a variety of


industries. In confined space applications, the Ventis can be used to draw samples from up to 100 feet with the integral pump. The gas detector alerts users in dangerous conditions through an audible alarm, ultra-bright LED visual alarms and a powerful vibrating alarm.


Ventis users can choose from a wide range of sensors, batteries, chargers and more. Among the battery options is an extended range lithium-ion battery which enables up to 20 hours of uninterrupted personal monitoring when used with the no pump version. Overmold colour options are also available, including either black or safety orange for increased visibility.


Being compatible with iNet, the Ventis can be kept working without costly and time-consuming maintenance. iNet is a software-based service that increases safety by providing visibility into gas detector alarms, exposure and usage. With iNet, customers do not have to buy gas detectors. Instead, they can subscribe to iNet and receive Gas Detection as a Service.
