REGISTRATION OPEN FOR ASTM AVIATION AND TURBINE FUELS (SATF) SEMINAR
Registration is open for ASTM International’s Aviation Fuels and Standards for Synthetic Aviation Turbine Fuels (SATF) Seminar, to be held Apr. 7, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium. The event is sponsored by ASTM International’s aviation fuel committee (D02.J) and will be held in conjunction with the committee’s standards development meetings.
According to the seminar’s technical chair Mark Rumizen, global interest in the ASTM standards development process is building due to current widespread focus on reducing carbon emissions from aviation fuels, along with efforts to eliminate lead in aviation gasoline. This is especially true in Europe, where pending environmental mandates call for increased use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). Proposed regulatory constraints on the use of leaded aviation gasoline lend new urgency to the development of alternative fuels, along with the specifications that control and define those fuels. This seminar, and subsequent D02.J subcommittee technical meetings, will provide an opportunity to discuss and describe unique approaches to evaluation and specification development for aviation fuels. It will also explore areas of coordination and collaboration on research initiatives and policy development, with the shared goal of mitigating the climate and environmental impact of aviation.
Topics will include: • SATF and ASTM Overview;
• ASTM D4054 Overview & US Clearinghouse; • EU Clearing House; • UK Clearing House; • ASTM D7566 Overview; • SATF Supply Chain; • Co-Processing; • Airworthiness Standards and SATF (EASA); • Airworthiness Standards and SATF (FAA);
• Interplay of Government Policy with Aviation Fuel Specifications, and • ASTM SATF Qualification Panel.

PAPERS INVITED FOR ASTM ON- LINE PROCESS NMR TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP
Papers are invited for ASTM International’s Workshop for On-Line Process NMR Technology: Utilizing ASTM Standards and Practices, to be held June 23, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. The event is sponsored by ASTM International’s petroleum products and lubricants committee (D02) and will be held in conjunction with the committee’s standards development meetings.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, both in the lab and online, has been an essential technology in the characterization of all petroleum materials, from crude oil to gases. However, NMR remains unexplored within ASTM.
This workshop will provide information on the use of NMR in
hydrocarbon analyses, laboratory and on-line application areas. It will also address the “symbiotic” use of published ASTM optical spectroscopy, and chemometric methodologies, practices, and guidelines in its implementation. To participate in the workshop, authors must submit a 250- to 300-word abstract to the workshop chairs, Paul Giammatteo (paul.g@4irsolutions. com), or Bill Welch, (
wtwelch@spectrointelligence.com) no later than Jan. 31, 2025. For more information about this workshop, please visit:
