Measurement and Testing Intrinsically Safe
Viscometer for Lab-Scale Reaction Vessels
Hydramotion (UK) announce that its ReactaVisc RV3 research-grade viscometers are now available in intrinsically safe versions certified for use in Hazardous Areas up to and including Zone 0 (explosive atmosphere continuously present), equivalent to Class 1 Division 1 Group A.
Both the standard and the high-temperature models are now available as intrinsically safe versions with ATEX / IEC certification to Ga Ex ia IIC T4 - T6, allowing the transducers to be operated even in the most hazardous environments. This means that the benefits of continuous, real-time viscosity measurement can now be exploited in almost any laboratory or pilot-scale application.
Ideal for monitoring oil viscosity in the lab, the ReactaVisc can be used at temperatures up to 250°C without requiring any special cooling. Efficient design ensures that sensitive components in the head enclosure are protected from overheating, even though the sensor probe itself is at full fluid temperature. The advantage is that there is no risk of measurement
errors resulting from the viscosity changes that would be caused by localised cooling of the fluid around the sensor.
The ReactaVisc has a compact enclosure which takes up minimal space at the top of the vessel, leaving plenty of room for ancillary equipment such as stirrers. The sensor is a solid probe with no moving parts, bearings or seals that could wear out or fail in service, so routine maintenance is not required.
Viscosity is measured every two seconds and displayed on the separate VP550 signal processor unit included in the system. Output includes a 4 - 20mA analogue viscosity signal and an RS485 serial data link. The optional ViscoLink software package enables measurement data to be logged and transferred to a PC for analysis.
The ReactaVisc is supplied with a fitting consisting of a compression nut plus an adaptor made to suit the desired installation. The shaft is passed through the adaptor and the compression nut is hand-tightened at the required position, forming an effective seal. The immersion depth is adjusted simply by loosening the fitting, moving as required, and re-tightening. The whole operation can be completed in seconds. This versatile feature enables the immersion depth of the sensor can be adjusted at will, making it easy to use the viscometer in differing volumes of fluid or in vessels of varying capacity. No recalibration is needed when the viscometer is transferred from one vessel to another, since calibration is unaffected by the volume of fluid or the dimensions of the container.

Te Ideal Hand-Held Industrial Combustion Gas Analyser
The new, updated E2200 Portable Combustion Analyser, from E Instruments (USA) is an all-in-one unit for boiler, burner, engine, turbine, furnace, and other combustion applications. Pre-calibrated and field replaceable sensors allow for easy diagnostics and replacements to reduce “down-time” and costly repair charges.
The E2200 also includes O2 (0-25%), CO (0-8000 ppm), and NO/NOx (0-4000 ppm) sensors, efficiency, excess air, and CO2% calculated values, stack gas and ambient air temperature measurements and draft and differential pressure
measurements. These measurement tools are augmented by a 12” probe with 10’ dual hose and optional hose extensions, rechargeable battery & AC charger, internal memory to save data, a software package with PC communications cable and a hard plastic carrying case.

Modular 2-wire Liquid Analyser Supports Dual Sensors
Yokogawa’s (Netherlands) FLXA21 is the latest generation of the company's range of liquid analysers designed for continuous online measurements in industrial installations.
The new instrument is a modular 2-wire liquid analyser that supports the use of up to two sensors and can be flexibly configured to measure several different liquid properties including pH/ORP, contacting conductivity, inductive conductivity and dissolved oxygen.
The FLXA21 also incorporates a number of advanced features including a touch screen for ease of operation, sensor self-diagnostics, maintenance time estimation, 12 language display options, and a range of digital communications interfaces.
The ability of the FLXA21 to support up to two sensors of the same type helps to reduce installation and maintenance costs and save space, in addition to enabling the configuration of a highly reliable backup system with interruption- free measurement assured even during maintenance.
The modular design of the FLXA21 offers a high degree of 'scalability' and
enables the construction of a variety of systems. System changeover can be accomplished quickly and easily by replacing and adding modules, and users can select the case material (plastic or stainless steel).
The interactive touch display provides on-screen guidance messages to make setup quick and easy. In the event of an error, the screen displays an error code and indicates the corrective action to be taken. Several different display modes are available, and prompts and other messages eliminate the need to consult the instruction manual.
Sensor self-diagnostics capabilities are provided via continuous measurement of sensor impedance, asymmetric potential and slope, as well as continuous monitoring for electrode contamination, damage, burnout and decline in measurement liquid level. A display of sensor status includes the latest five calibration results along with an estimate of the future maintenance and calibration times.
The FLXA21 can be used with a wide variety of pH/ORP, contacting conductivity, inductive conductivity, and dissolved oxygen sensors. Digital communications options include HART, FOUNDATION(TM
) fieldbus and Profibus. Reader Reply Card No 156
High Quality Standard Proven Once Again for Inline Measurement Specialists
As a manufacturer of sonic velocity measuring systems for the inline determination of concentration and density, high quality standards in all management processes are for SensoTech GmbH (Germany) an established part of the corporate identity. Thanks to detailed application know-how and considerable technical expertise, SensoTech is able to develop and produce optimal customised solutions. Before a measuring device of the LiquiSonic® product line is delivered to its installation point at the customer site, it runs through several stages of quality assurance.
“In the opinion of SensoTech, the quality management does not only stand for considering the customers request as well as performing product-specific test and quality procedures, but it is also reflected in all company activities“, declares Managing Director, Mathias Bode. “Consequently, all technical details of SensoTech products as well as all staff member activities, such as sales, development and manufacturing or calibration are
documented traceably and transparently, on the one hand, and effective measures for evaluation and improvement ensure the customer’s satisfaction, on the other hand.”
External authorised qualification bodies examine the quality management carefully for internationally accepted standards. For the 15th time in succession, the TÜV NORD CERT GmbH has also audited the quality standards of SensoTech GmbH in this year and certified the compliance in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 : 2008.
As a global player and alongside with ISO 9001, SensoTech offers a large number of certificates accepted by several countries, such as CSA, FDA, GOST, NEPSI or CE. In addition, SensoTech provides the LiquiSonic®
devices together with different certificates, for
example, for calibration, factory acceptance test and material, and fulfils requirements for qualification procedures like IQ and OQ. SensoTech:
For almost 20 years SensoTech GmbH has been engaged in the development, manufacturing and sales of inline analysis systems for process liquids. With worldwide installed, highly precise and innovative measuring systems for monitoring of concentrations, compositions and changes of chemicals as well as properties directly in the process, SensoTech has significantly contributed to the enhancement of the state of the art. In addition to the measurement of concentration and density, the phase interface detection as well as the monitoring of chemical reactions like polymerisation and crystallisation are typical applications. SensoTech inline analysers set standards in the technological and qualitative valence, user friendliness and reproducibility of process values. Special calculation methods and sophisticated sensor technologies enable reliable and precise measuring results even under the most difficult process conditions.
The knowledge and the experiences of the highly motivated and committed SensoTech staff are the result of many different applications supported by well known customers from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, food technology, semiconductor technology, automobile and steel industry as well as many other industries. In addition, these experiences also open up unimagined solution possibilities for new measuring challenges.
