12 Analytical Instrumentation A-3000 All-In-One Micro-gaschromatograph


SRA Instruments (Italy) introduced recently the A-3000 All-In-One micro-gascromatograph (µGC), a compact and flexible analyser designed to accurately measure gas composition in laboratory, on-line and at-line applications. The A-3000 model is made on the latest µGC technology and employs its unique modular design to simplify set-up and use, troubleshooting, maintenance, allowing the simultaneous sample analysis on up to four parallel µGC column channels to solve complex mixtures.


The small dimensions of the A-3000 components, made on MEMS technologies, keep high level analytical performance saving on gas requirements, power consumption and maintaining low operative costs.


The high speed µGC analysis allows fast response and high sample throughput, ensuring faster and better decision in continuous process monitoring.


The A-3000 µGC is designed for monitoring gas and processes in Refinery Gas applications, Fuel Gas, Natural Gas, Hydrogen production, Biogas and Syngas. The architecture incorporates a powerful on-board embedded computer, a large LCD touchscreen, up to 6 electrovalves for automatic sampling stream selection, modbus and profibus communication, 4-20mA signals and alarms, LAN connectivity. Soprane, a dedicated user friendly software developed by SRA Instruments controls all the analyser functions, providing reports, calculations, signals and graphical information. In order to enhance its flexibility and applicability, the A-3000 µGC can be used coupled with the headspace autosampler and thermal desorption unit. The same analyser is available in the explosion-proof version suitable for hazardous explosive areas.

FP89-ME and FP89-HL: High-Capacity Ultra-Low Refrigerated Circulators


Julabo (Germany) offers two ultra-low refrigerated circulators with proportional cooling control and 2-phase cascade cooling. The "Active Cooling Control" ensures that the maximum cooling capacity is always available in the entire temperature range. High-performance circulating pumps and high heating and cooling performances additionally guarantee short heat-up and cool-down times. The working temperature range of the units ranges from -90°C to +100°C at a maximum cooling power of 1000W. An integrated early warning system for low liquid level (DBGM: 203 06 059.8) gives a warning at low liquid level before a safety cut-off comes into effect. In addition the pump capacity can be adjusted electronically via “Smart Pump” – the pressure and suction pump of model FP89-HL reaches a performance of up to 26 l/min respectively 1,1 bar. In addition both models are equipped with heated bath covers to avoid accumulation of ice or condensation as well as a drain tap at the front for easy discharge of bath liquid. Collaboration on HPHT Viscosity Standards


Recognising that oil exploration increasingly involves reservoir fluids at pressures and temperatures not previously encountered, Schlumberger and Cambridge Viscosity (USA) formed a collaborative effort to define and develop viscosity standards appropriate for these new conditions.


The coalition sponsored an industry-wide High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) Viscosity Standards workshop to gauge interest, broaden support and guide the effort. Widespread industry participation in the workshop indicated significant interest in developing a fluid viscosity standards program.


Robert Kasameyer, President of Cambridge Viscosity, indicates, “The workshop concluded that suitable viscosity standards should be developed as soon as possible. Target fluid viscosities and conditions were identified and broad characteristics of a development program were discussed including the involvement of multiple measurement technologies and multiple laboratories in the effort.”

Supercritical Fluid Technologies, Inc. (USA) recently introduced the SFT-250 Supercritical Fluid Extractor (SFE). Designed to perform a variety of extractions in supercritical fluid, the SFT-250 is engineered to meet the day-to-day rigors of the research lab. Additionally, the system may be used for small scale pilot processing. The SFT-250 is simple to operate and easy to modify for evolving applications needs.


The SFT-250’s extraction vessel is forged from durable stainless steel. Vessels can range in size from 100 mL to 5 litres. Larger vessels are idea for extracting very low levels of key components from a raw material or for process larger amounts of bulk material. A wide range of operations pressures (up to 10,000 psi) and temperatures (ambient to 200o SFT-250 has the flexibility required to meet almost any application of supercritical fluids.
