28 Safety Addressable Smoke and Heat Detection for Classified Non-Hazardous Areas
Minneapolis, USA (February 17, 2011). Detector Electronics Corporation (Det-Tronics) has announced its addressable smoke and heat (ASH) module. This module, when combined with the Eagle Quantum Premier®
of UTC Fire & Security, a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
“Users no longer need to rely on an external fire panel to determine where a fire is occurring,” says Mike Bragg, Product Manager at Det-Tronics, “The ASH module enables smoke and heat detection in living quarters to be included in the same EQP system with flame and gas detection in hazardous process areas. All the information can be accessed now in one integrated EQP system that is Factory Mutual (FM) certified to the new NFPA 72-2010 standard.”
Additional safety and ease-of-use features include multiple smoke/heat detectors and devices on a single safety loop or spur, support for an array of devices, including horns, strobes, manual call stations, and input/output units, powerful yet simple programming and logic, enhanced functionality such as integrated device level automatic integrity check (aic) and third-party performance approvals by FM, Canadian Standards Association (CSA), ATEX, and CE
Reader Reply Card No 96 New Wireless Cordless Audio Visual Alarm Station
Detcon's (USA) new SW-AV1-DV1 and SW-AV1-DV2 are wireless cordless audio visual alarm stations that can operate continuously in full alarm condition for up to 6 hours using standard SmartWireless™battery packs. The wireless alarm stations have two alarm levels with relay options that include adjustable set points and latching/non-latching relays. Alarm Level 1 activates the strobe and Alarm Level 2 initiates an audible warning device. Communication is performed using RXT-300 or RXT-320 SmartWireless™ transceivers. Alarm Level 2 can be configured for acknowledge/silence via operator interface at the SmartWireless™HMI display panel when communicating by way of the RXT-320 transceiver. The RXT-300 transceiver has integrated processing capabilities and does not require a stand-alone controller to activate alarms. Alarm levels are set in the transceiver using a wireless configuration tool.
Detcon-designed "smart" battery packs continuously report charge levels and estimated operating time before recharge or replacement is required. An optional solar charging panel can be used to extend operating time and maintain a full battery charge in virtually any application. SW-AV1-DV1 is rated Class I; Division 1, Groups C, D; and SW-AV1-DV2 is Class I; Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D

Industrial Scientific (USA) is pleased to announce that a new infrared sensor is now available for use with the BM25 multi-gas area monitor. The XP IR sensor further expands the unit’s wide range of gas detection capabilities.
With this sensor, the BM25 can detect from one to five gases with interchangeable “smart” sensors for combustible gases, oxygen and toxic gases including CO, H2S, SO2, NO2, Cl2, ClO2, NH3, PH3, AsH3, SiH4, ETO, NO, HCl, HCN and CO2.
IR sensors do not react with poisons known for damaging catalytic sensors, such as silicone, H2S, chlorinated solvents and more. Compared to a catalytic sensor, the XP IR sensor has a longer lifetime and carries a 3-year warranty.
The BM25 packs the benefits of a fixed system area monitor into an easily transportable, yet rugged system. Designed for mobile or temporary applications in a variety of industries, the unit is particularly useful for shut downs, hot work or for use in places where fixed detection systems are not suitable.

The new G400-MP2 pump from GfG (Germany) communicates with the gas detectors G450/G460. This interaction allows fault indication via the detector display. Low battery, blocked sampling line or interrupted power fault modes are shown on the display and activate different visual and audible warnings.
Gas samples can be taken from distances of up to 100 m with considerable low-pressure performance; the safe solution for confined space measurement. The G400-MP2 is the only attachable pump available which may remain fixed to the detector. When the pump is turned on, the diffusion inlets are covered and the measurement results are not affected by air flows.
An additional filter system in the sampling line protects pump and sensors from dust and moisture. When the pump is turned off, the gas detector can be operated as usual. The diffusion inlets now allow all gases to enter the sensor chamber.
The G400-MP2 is operated on its own power supply, independently from the gas detector; i.e. the pump does not affect the operational time of the G450/G460. The pump power supply allows at least 10 hours of continuous operation.
