8 News GHA IS MAKING SURE TENANTS ARE AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING IT DOES

GHA tenant board member Iwona Majzuk-Soska on why it’s important to get involved

We talk and

GHA listens I’VE been a GHA tenant since 2006 and joined the GHA Board in 2014.

I had been involved in the Polish

Forum, then the scrutiny panel before joining the Board. As a tenant board member, I’m a link between tenants and management. Tenants like me are familiar with issues on the ground and we can take that to senior management. We know what works and what doesn’t. If we take issues to the Board they must take into account what we say. Our voices are the most important. Without tenants, GHA doesn’t exist.

The best experience for me has been improving the repairs service. Repairs are so important

because your home is such a huge part of everyone’s life. The joint venture is the next step

for GHA to take more power over the repairs service.

I am happy I helped achieve that.

I’m also very proud of online services. It is the best communication tool, the best way for tenants to engage with GHA. If tenants use online services

they have more control over the services they receive. Being a board member has been exciting, interesting and challenging – but also very helpful for me. As a tenant board member I’m helping improve people’s homes and communities – and the whole of Glasgow too. Tenants should be more involved in GHA because it means we’re influencing things for us and for our children. If people want better homes,

want to help their neighbours, they should take responsibility, get involved and help make a difference.

HERE TO HELP: GHA’s Gary MacGregor with tenant Melenie Carmichael in Barmulloch

Let’s get engaged... A

N engagement van is helping GHA get closer to tenants in the north east.

The van makes it easier for people to

talk to staff about the issues that matter to them – and find out how GHA can help. Staff have been giving people

information on GHA services including fuel and welfare benefits advice.

Tenant Melenie Carmichael, from Barmulloch, said: “It’s good to see the housing team out and about in the community.

“I got the help I needed straight away, so I’m really happy.” The engagement van will be out and about in the north east over the summer. To find out where and when, visit www.gha.org.uk

Get involved – it’s a piece of cake!

A TENANT event had all the ingredients for an exceedingly good get-together. An event called ‘Help put the icing on the cake’ at Wheatley House saw tenants come together to discuss how GHA is performing. They talked about how the new repairs service is shaping up and

how GHA is making sure it listens to tenants’ priorities. They also looked at plans for a new policy on allocating homes. GHA’s Maureen Dowden said: “It’s vital

for GHA to take into account tenants’ views.” Afternoon tea – as well as a slice of cake – was also served.
