New garden transforms back court A


TENANT in the north west built a beautiful garden her neighbours are all enjoying. Elizabeth Dawson, from


Drumchapel Road, was fed up looking at her overgrown back court and decided to do something about it. And with the help of her family – and hard-working GHA staff – she transformed the back court into a stunning garden with patio, planters, decorative stones and flowers. Elizabeth, a retired cook, said: “The backcourt was an overgrown mess - it hadn’t been touched in 17 years. “I’d always wanted a nice bit of garden to potter around and wanted to do something. “We approached our local office – and GHA staff did a great job cutting back the overgrown area. “My daughter, son-in-law and my


grandson all chipped in to build the garden area. “It looks beautiful. Our neighbours


have already told us how much they like it.

area helps everyone feel better about the community they live in. “We were only too happy to help.”

Milton gets connected


TENANTS in the north west got together to find out what’s going on in their community. A ‘Get Connected’ event in Milton earlier this summer saw GHA housing officers and fuel advisors join partners including A&M Training, Glasgow Life, North Glasgow Community Food Initiative, among others, at the Scaraway flats.


Scottish Fire and Rescue


were also on hand to give out fire safety advice. The event was followed by a Silver Deal day at the ARC, where older tenants were reminded about how GHA can help and about other local services available. Karen McLaughlin, GHA’s housing manager for the area, said: “We’re always here to help.”
