HAPPY FAMILY: Michelle Jeffries with Elyas Mohammed, baby Mishaal and Elyas’ children Matta and Mohammed.

Castlemilk fun day win for Jack

LITTLE Jack Fraser looks thrilled after winning a giant teddy at a community fun day in the south. The youngster won this

furry favourite in a raffle as part of Castlemilk Fun Day earlier this summer. Jack, 3, from Raithburn

Road, is pictured with GHA’s Liam Gallacher. GHA tenants and staff took part in the fun day, along with other community groups. The giant teddy raffle

raised money for the ‘Angels Wings’ charity.

Elyas so grateful he named baby after housing officer Michelle

TENANT was so grateful for the support he got from his housing officer he named his baby after her. Elyas Mohammed and wife Nasmat, who

live in the east end, celebrated their new arrival in June this year. The happy couple, who are from Sudan, named their little boy Mishaal after GHA housing officer Michelle Jeffries. Not only had Michelle gone the extra mile in helping the family settle into their home – she even broke the news of Nasmat’s pregnancy to the delighted couple. They needed help to understand the instructions on their pregnancy test, so Michelle was the one who gave them the good news. Proud dad Elyas, 35, who is a security guard, said: “When I came here with my family last year I had nothing. Michelle helped us in so many ways. “She helped with an interpreter, helped me get fuel and welfare benefits advice.

“Whenever I had a problem Michelle helped every time. “My wife Nasmat took the pregnancy

test while Michelle was at home with us – and it was Michelle who gave us the good news. “My kids love her too. “We’re all very comfortable with her – and we wanted to name our new baby after her. “She’s like part of the family.” Michelle said: “I was so touched by this. It turns out little Mishaal has the same birthday as my dad, who passed away last year. It’s all been quite emotional.” Margaret Crawley, GHA’s housing manager for the area, added: “This is a lovely example of the difference we can make to people’s lives – and how important that support can be. “It’s so heart-warming and a great tribute to Michelle and the support she provides to all her tenants.”
