News 7 BACK TO PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITIES

LET’S WORK: Ryan Doherty got a job as a scaffolder thanks to GHA’s ‘community benefit’ scheme

If you’re on disability benefits, get in touch

TENANTS who are claiming disability benefits could be in line for an increase in their money. If you think you, or someone you know, might be affected, get in touch with us. There are certain criteria to claim the

extra income, but we can help you find out if it applies to you. It might also be that you or somebody

you know has had their disability benefits reduced or stopped. We can help you challenge this and get your money back. If you’re already receiving disability benefits such as Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment, then you might be able to get the extra cash. Talk to your housing officer to make an appointment with one of our welfare benefits advisors. Remember, there are lots of ways we can help if you’re struggling. We can help you with managing your money, cutting your fuel bills, getting furniture for your home, help into jobs and training, and lots more. Just talk to your housing officer, visit www.gha.org.uk or give us a call. GHA really is here to help.

More, and easier, ple’s lives - and your own!

Tenant Funmi Komolafe, took the course last year – and now works full-time as a Health and Wellbeing Assistant with Loretto Care. Funmi, 45, from Knightswood, said: “I really enjoyed the Routes into Care course. “It’s a good introduction and helps you learn new skills. “The placement helps you see what the job really involves. “The course really increased my confidence and has helped me start my new career. “To work in care you need to be patient, interested and good with people – and the course gives you all the training you need. “Working in care is a great way of

making a difference and putting a smile on people’s faces.” GHA Chair Bernadette Hewitt said: “The Routes into Care course is a really helpful way for tenants to learn new skills and find out if working in care is for them. “Everyone who completes the course is guaranteed a job interview – so it’s a good opportunity for tenants.” You don’t need any previous experience – just lots of enthusiasm and an interest in working in care. If you’re interested, or someone you know is, phone 274 8045 or email zofiap@lorettoha.co.uk

ways to pay rent MORE and more customers are paying their rent by Direct Debit, or using our online self-service. People who have made the switch tell us it’s so much easier and convenient. We have found that as a result of easy

ways to pay like Direct Debit, and the fact that our housing officers are out and about in communities, fewer people are using our city centre shop on Trongate. Because of this steady decline in the number of people paying at the shop, we are planning to close the shop from September this year. We’ve written to customers who normally visit the shop to make a payment so we can help them find a new way to pay. Staff at our local offices and housing officers are on hand to guide customers through every step of how to set up a new payment method. Just get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.
