CURTIS “GIL” QUARRIER 3-26-1951-12-18-2020


Born in Jacksonville, he resided in Callahan where he taught Ag at Callahan Middle School before becoming a full time cattle ranch- er. He served on the NE Florida Fair’s Board of Trustees and as Vice President. He was a member of the Nassau County Farm Bu- reau and the Cattlemen’s Associa- tion. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cathy, a son, and a daughter.


WALTER GORMAN 10-20-1936-1-5-2021


Born in New York City and raised in Revere, MA. He lived in Shelbyville, KY. He was a Trustee on the South- west Florida & Lee County Fair Board. He was a published author and journalist and an accomplished musician. He authored the column “Back Roads USA.” He was a mem- ber of the Araba Shrine. He is sur- vived by his wife of 60 years, Su- san, 3 children, 6 grand children and 7 great grandchil- dren.

Born in Dothan, Alabama she lived in West Palm Beach where she had a bookkeeping business before retiring to Lake Placid. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Brantley “Buck” Christian, retired manager of the South Flor- ida Fair. She is also survived by 2


daughters and 7 grandchildren. BETTY THOMAS

Born in Ocala, she spent her early childhood in the area of White Springs, along the Su- wannee River. Betty retired from Reinhold Corp. and Pen- ny Farms. Volunteering in the community held a special inter- est in her life, including The Clay County Agricultural Fair, Clay County 4-H and more. She is survived by 3 daugh- ters, 5 grand children and 11 great grandchildren.


JEANETTE Sweat ROEGNER 8-10-1939-4-2-21


Born in Ware County, GA she was a “My Fair Lady” volunteer for the Great- er Jacksonville Agricultural Fair for 20 years, of which her husband of almost 61 years, Gary, served as General Manager. She was also involved in the 4-H community. In addition to her hus- band she is survived by two daughters and 3 grandchildren.


MARY CAROLYN Causey BRADDOCK 1931-5-4-2021


Born in Grand Crossing, Jacksonville she moved to Fernandina Beach in 1971. She and her husband Tom were active in the Greater Jacksonville Agri- cultural Fair where she was a Past Chair. Besides her husband, Thomas H. Braddock, Jr. of 50 years, she is survived by a daughter and a daughter-in-law. She was preceded in death by her only son, Larry W. Keen.


FRANCES Spooner ROOKS 12-2-1927-5-18-2021


A native and life long resident of Citrus County she and her husband Valentine were cattle ranchers and carried on a tradition of grinding sugar cane syrup to this day. She was a 4-H Leader, member of the Farm Bureau and a Director on the Citrus County Fair Board. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Valentine Marion Rooks, 3 children, 6 grand children and 13 great grandchildren.


LOUIS H. HOEGSTED 2-25-1948-5-21-2021


The Collier Fair Board and Staff are heartbroken at the loss of Past Presi- dent, Finance Director and, most of all, friend Lou Hoegsted. Lou served the fair board for over 30 years and will truly be missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hoegsted family during this difficult


time. Lou was predeceased by his wife Cathy and son Craig. He is survived by two daughters, one son and 6 grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Lou’s life on Thursday, July 8 from 6-8 pm at the Collier Fairgrounds. Please visit Facebook page “Celebration of Lou Hoeg- sted’s life!”
