Faircracker SUMMER 2021
Greetings from Zone 2 Vicki Chouris, Director
Whenever we are in a time of need, our Fair friends are always
there for us. This was reinforced for me when I was unable to at- tend the Zone 2 meeting at the Florida Federation of Fairs meet- ing in May. As many of you know, the second run of our South Florida Fair was rescheduled for May so it conflicted with the Federation dates. Our South Florida Fair team was extremely disappointed that we could not attend this year. All I had to do was ask and Nancy Smith agreed to chair the Zone 2 meeting that was
held during the convention. Thank you to all who participated, especially those who trav- eled to Florida from other states. All reports indicate the meeting was well worth it. Con- gratulations to Dan West for his first in-person convention.
The IAFE continues to provide great information and support for Zone 2 members. It is hard to believe but registration
for the Annual Convention opens July 26. Plan to register early to get the best rate. This will be the final year the con- vention will be held in San Antonio. The 2022 convention will be in Indianapolis and the location will change every year after that time. Although most of our Florida Fairs took place so far in 2021, many Fairs across the nation are still struggling. We need
your voice in Congress for support of an aid package.(
https://www.fairsandexpos.com/Advocacy) Please contact your Congressional representatives and ask them to co-sponsor HR2424 in the House and S1092 in the Senate – The Agri- cultural Fairs Rescue Act. Finally, my term as a Zone 2 Director is sadly coming to an end in December. The good news is another individual will
have the opportunity to serve in this very rewarding role. A nominating committee has been formed and will be chaired by Dan West. The committee will meet over the summer and begin the application process. I encourage anyone with an interest in serving to submit an application. It is such a great experience and the IAFE is a wonderful source of network- ing and education for our industry. The new Zone 2 Director will also have the chance to work with Zone 1 to host the combined Zone meetings in May 2022 at the Florida Federation annual convention. Great times are ahead for all of us!
