I am writing this piece with the utmost excite- ment, pride, and gratitude. It’s hard to believe that over a year ago we were all in a state of disbelief and heartbreak and going into 2021 we still were holding our breath, praying that we would be able to open the gates to celebrate our
100 Year Anniversary. On Thursday, April 8, 2021 the Lake County Fair kicked open those gates to celebrated 100 Years of Critters, Corn Dogs & Carousels, and for the next 10 days we partied like Rockstars! The event was a huge success and we could not have done it without the support of our community who helped make our 100 Year Celebration a record-breaking event reaching over 77,000 guests! The 100th Annual Lake County Fair featured new entertainment which
included Them Sweeney Boys, the 3 Ring Super Circus, Robinsons Rac- ing Pigs, Fritzy Brothers One Man Circus, Farmer Billy’s Barnyard Revue, The Amazing Bubble Factory and The Humdingers. A few of our old fa- vorites returned as well; All About Ag and Oscar the Robot. In addition to our star-studded entertainment line up we also featured several interactive contests such as an old fashioned Pie Eating Contest, a Spaghetti Eating Contest, a Cake Walk and new this year; which turned out to be every- one’s favorite event; the Law Enforcement Donut Challenge; which City of Eustis Chief Birkho- fer won! The HAYLOFT and
the Art Barn became interactive hubs for our guests to get hands on with agricul- ture and art. The HAYLOFT featured numerous interactive, hands-on agricultural education activities such as the milkable cow, pedal tractors pulls and pony rac- es. The Art Barn provided opportunities for our guests to get creative with activi- ties such as ceramic painting and our award-winning Crop Art (combining art and agriculture). We introduced the newest member of the Lake County Fair Family, Mayor Fer-
ris Wheeler who quickly became a celebrity overnight within the community and across the nation. Mayor Wheeler spent months promoting the Fair and was on hand daily for our Welcome Show/Opening Ceremony. Each day he selected one lucky child from the crowd and make them our
“Junior Mayor of the Day,” which they received their own top hat and a big “Junior Mayor” rib- bon. They were also on hand to cut the ribbon each day and were featured on our social media sites. Of course, we had our fabulous food ranging from corn dogs to cotton candy and our amazing
midway the James E. Strates Shows which provided over 35 thrilling rides. Our youth livestock sale produced over $450,000; the Fair paid out over $15,000 in premiums
and awards to local Lake County residents who participated in our arts, horticulture and livestock programs.
Believe it or not, as we are bringing this amazing year to a close, we are already
gearing up for our 101st Lake County Fair, April 7-17, 2022. We are anticipating even more fun and excitement and we hope that you will continue to partner with us for more #FAIRFUN101!
