Faircracker SUMMER 2021

RUSTY GROSCURTH NAMED 2021 ASSOCIATE OF THE YEAR

Rusty was born in Tampa and grew up in the carnival industry, learning the

business from the ground up. After earning a Bachelors degree from the Univer- sity of Tampa he became a school teacher but went back to the carnival indus- try where he says, “if you work hard you can make a good living, it is a place where family and friends can be together much more so than the “Real World.” The Groscurths joined NICA the first year it was organized and got I.D. #134.

They sell one major item focusing on how to do it Better, Faster, Fresher and present the best they can, serving gourmet quality dogs-on-a-stick, freshly made and hand dipped. Rusty is always ready to step in and help where

there is a need, whether it is raising money or spon- soring an event. He truly deserves this honor.

117TH Annual Florida State Fair April 22-May 2, 2021

After a two month postponement due to the novel Coro-

navirus, the tradition continued at the 117th Annual Florida State Fair with endless entertainment, deep-fried almost everything, creative arts exhibits, livestock shows and thrills out on the midway. From a refreshed and robust entertainment lineup to special events like the Deep Fried Dash 5K and Roots of the Fair Breakfast, the 2021 fair continued traditions for families, community members and adventure seekers across the board at a time when the community needed it most. Our entertainment lineup fea- tured the fair favorite Daredevil Daze 2.0, a stunt show featuring Bello and Annaliese Nock, Extreme Flight Club a new energetic flying trapeze act, Disconnecting K-9’s, a show featuring rescue dogs that are trained to preform tricks, Mango and Dango, stilt walkers roaming the grounds, and much more.

Something new for the palette this year, we offered a Fair Food Tour, a self-guided tour mapping out all the new and exciting foods of 2021. Guests could participate by picking up an info card at Guest Services that detailed all the foods, their location, and how to vote for their favorite. Twelve food items were included, some of the favorites were the Pig Rig by Low N Slow Concessions, a BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich stuffed with Mac & Cheese, and the Pickle Pizza by Angela’s Pizza, a white garlic sauce base topped with mozzarella cheese and dill pickles gar- nished with ranch and dill seasoning after it comes out of the oven.

Almost 300,000 guests attended across the 11 days of the fair – one day shorter than our usual 12-day run. Ag-

ricultural and educational programs saw success with over 1,400 livestock exhibitors participating in competitions. Thanks to hard work and great support from our team and partners, the 2021 fair was one for the books in this new era of hosting large events.

We can’t wait to see everyone next year at the 118th Florida State Fair, February 10-21, 2022.
