The timing of acquiring this Allen engine couldn’t have been more perfect. We were just finishing having an extension built on our barn, so the old lump went straight into the shed and dodged any bad weather.
Once inside the shed, I built a wooden mould around the engine and cradle I had made. This was then filled with concrete to make the engine base, and secure it in its new position.
Here is
one of the air bottles for starting the engine.
Once the concrete had all gone off, it was time to refit the seriously heavy flywheel and outrigger bearing.
Everything about the engine is over kill. Our next challenge was to hang the exhaust on the side of the building I acquired two exhausts and bolted them together, in an effort to try and quieten the noise the Allen would produce.
