Approaching Klondyke Mill

a long slow incline. To assist with the climb, the Burrell Engine was attached to the front of the Fowler, and the two engines pulled their load effortlessly out of the town and on to Tutbury, where the Burrell was un-hitched. The engines finally arrived back at Klondyke at 1445 where the roller was unloaded and parked up adjacent to the Club’s workshop. Little is known about the roller and it is hoped that, as restoration begins, people will come forward with information. The vehicle, which was made in Grantham has a London registration which dates it to 1938 and the engine number is AD356E. When new it was supplied to a contracting company, Stimpson & Rollston of Leicester.

It then went on to be used at Ellistown Brick and Tile Company, near Coalville, before moving to the former Hepworth Pipeworks, off

Coppice Side in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, where it was used to illustrate the strength of the company's products. From 2001, it was on display at Snibston Discovery Park, Coalville. When the museum closed, BSDC inherited it as a possible restoration project for the students. The North Staffs and Cheshire Traction Engine Club hope to restore the vehicle, carrying out as much of the work as possible

on-site and will have it on public display at their future events, the first of which is hoped to be in October 2021.

Any information on the roller would be much appreciated and the Club can be contacted by email: web.nsctec@tiscali.co.uk More information about the Club can be found by visiting our website: www.nsctec.co.uk
