Across the Board

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT By Don Brunner, President

Hello everyone. Welcome summer, goodbye mask. Seeing our members at events without masks has started to make things feel normal again. We kicked off the in-person meetings on May 14. We had more than 180 members in attendance at the Cincinnati Zoo; being an outside event made it easy to create a safe feeling for attendees while networking. Then we followed that off with an

extremely busy in-person board meeting which was highlighted by giving Jesse Brewer with CAP Real Estate our ‘Above

and Beyond’ award for his efforts getting SB11 in Kentucky across the finish line. SB11 makes it a criminal offense to purposely de- stroy a rental unit in Kentucky. Thank you for your efforts Jesse, and congratulations. Next, we had the pleasure of adding Todd Hignite with Hearth Home Communities to the board; promoting Justin Seger with Hills Properties to the role of Secretary; and fi- nally moving Melissa Joy with Village Green Management into the role of Treasurer. Next, we had two more major changes to our association: Charles Tassell, our Director of Governmental Affairs for 22 years has given notice and will complete his time with the Association later this month. Charles has made a major impact on the multifamily industry over his time and has represented us well at the local, state, and national levels. As someone who has trav- eled with Charles around the state and to Washington DC, it makes it easy to talk about our industry with congressional leaders and

their staff when they know Charles personally. Thanks for all you have done and will continue to do. Pat Crowley, who is known in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky as both a public relations firm and lobbyist, will be taking over the role. We will have more to share about Pat in the coming months. Welcome Pat...and thank you Charles. Lastly - one that has been in the works for some time - brings 28 years of success to an end. Our very own Mark Franks will be stepping down as EVP in November. During Mark’s tenure, he led our association through many lean years and into a stable, nationally-recognized organization. Under Mark’s leadership, our association has won every possible award at the national level and Mark himself has won Association Executive of the Year twice. We will cover more of Mark’s career in the coming months. To make the transition, the board has extended an offer for the Association Executive position to Rebecca McLean. Rebecca, as you may know, has worked for Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Apartment Association (GCNKAA) in the role as Assistant Vice President for the last 25 years. She knows our industry and, better yet, knows our members. We are looking forward to her success in her new role which will start this November. During the next few months, Rebecca will work even closer with Mark to ensure the association doesn’t miss a beat. We will cover more of Rebecca’s transition in the coming months along with the several recaps of Marks career. That’s all for now. I hope you have a great start to the sum-

mer, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Golf Outing on June 10!
