The Apartment Association Outreach, Inc.
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT By Jeff March, BRG Apartments, Outreach President
Please join us on Saturday, July 31 begin- Jeff March
ning at 9:00 am at Friendship Park to support the 9th annual 5K 4 Rent as we raise money for rent assistance! Thank you Cincinnati Coin Laundry for your generosity as our Presenting Sponsor. I encourage all member companies to sponsor and please encourage your team members to participate as our goal is to have a record year in terms of both fundraising and attendance. The sponsorship opportunities are as follows. They are: Gold for $1,000; Silver for
$500; and Bronze for $350. Sponsors and participants can register from the home page of the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Apartment Association (GCNKAA) website or on the Outreach website 5k4Rent page at
www.5k4rent.org. The entry fee for the run is $40, and the walk entry fee is $35. Special Challenge Grant: A generous donor has challenged us to meet and exceed our event goal of $45,000. For any sponsor- ship that is a new sponsor for 2021, and for any previous sponsor that increases their sponsorship to a higher level, the amount of the respective new or increased sponsorship will be matched up to $5,000. Thus, fully matched would mean an impact of $10,000 to
support rent assistance. Please sponsor today and help us maximize this grant! Update on the L & L Nippert Charitable Foundation Grant:
Last December, the Apartment Association Outreach (AAO) was awarded a $30,000 grant to support our food pantry partners, and I would like to thank Susan Peck and Patty Braun for their tremendous efforts to see these funds used to assist our partners. Recently, Home Depot provided shelves for Gateway’s new food pantry on their Edgewood campus, and they delivered a refrigerator to the Anderson Ferry Food pantry in April. In June, we will be making a significant financial contribution to support our 20 food pantry partners. Emergency Assistance: Outreach recently provided 35 Cham-
pion Club residents, displaced by a fire, with $50 Walmart gift cards each (total of $1,750), and Home Depot Pro also donated $30 Home Depot gift cards to each of the families. We are proud to aid our member companies and their residents during times of crisis. Mission Moment: We received a testimonial from an anony- mous property manager that I would like to share. This individual noted that they were often skeptical of many resident “stories,” but had the following account to share with Outreach. “As Mother’s Day approached, a single mother reached out for help – she didn’t have rent money and found herself on the verge of being evicted. In this line of work you routinely see this scenario. Something about this particular request seemed different, unusual and genuine. When asked why the need for help, the mother said that she had two difficult choices: one to allow her child to continue to wither on the vine or take an unplanned temporary leave of absence from her well-paying job and devote every waking moment to nurse her child back to health and worry about the consequences later. The mother chose the latter. She’d be returning to work the next week, but wouldn’t get paid until two weeks later – she wouldn’t make the payment in time to stop the eviction. Having sensed the des- peration in her plea for help and realizing the sacrifice she made, I told her that I found an agency through Outreach - the Freestore Foodbank - that would pay her rent in full, and I personally thanked her for putting her child first and for the sacrifice she made. I ended our conversation by wishing her a “Happy Mother’s Day.” To this property manager … well done! The mission of Outreach is “to provide basic needs and emergency assistance to families and individuals in crisis.” I am incredibly grateful to our membership, and I hope you will continue to give of your time, talent and treasure to support our efforts to help those in need … we have much to be proud of as both GCNKAA and AAO! Thank you and see you on July 31!
