Cellphones today and tomorrow

How much does a teenager use his or her cellphone and how often is he or she connected online? As far as teenagers are concerned, it is not only normal for them to be connected but it is an absolute necessity. Is technology making teens more sociable or more unsociable? Cellphones are a constant companion for teens. It is like an extension of the body because their phones are with them all the time. They sleep with the phone on the pillow, they eat with the phone on their laps and they even carry their phones to the bathroom. Teens are a generation that have grown up with the Internet and cellphones. They get stressed when they are disconnected. They cannot imagine a reality where they can’t be reachable all the time. Many of them haven’t experienced a life without a phone. To be offline is similar to being totally isolated. The current teen generation are actually guinea pigs because no one knows how this constant connection to the Internet will affect them later on. A study conducted at Gothenberg University suggests that our new technical society will create a new kind of human. They will use their cellphone as a nomadic object or a moving force that will make people more mobile. This means that people will spend more time out of their homes. The other view is that people may become more confined to their homes because they will spend so much time online that they will not really spend time in the real world!
