People have written letters for thousands of years to communicate with others. It is important to know how to write a letter correctly.
Activity 11: Write an informal letter of appreciation
You are going to write an informal letter. The purpose of your letter is to thank someone for their help. This activity is for formal assessment, so revise how to write an informal letter. 1 Read the outline of the letter below and the notes around the letter. They will tell you how to write an informal letter in the correct format.
Remember line spaces.
First paragraph: greet and give some personal news, use a friendly tone.
Second paragraph: reason for
writing, this is the main idea of the letter.
The name that your friend/family calls you, no punctuation at the end.
Dear Aunt Rose
I hope you and the family are well. We are all well here. I really want to write to you because …
We all hope to see you soon and hear how …

date written in full.
Salutation: start with capital letter, no comma.
Third paragraph: refers to the relationship between the receiver and the writer, friendly suggestion for meeting.
Conclusion: start with capital letter, no
punctuation at the end. Choose a conclusion that refers to your feelings.
