NEW NEWS FROM NICA Rey O’Day, NICA Executive Director

G e gs f m NC re tin ro I A Despite Covid-19, many things were accomplished in 2020. NICA opened the year with the best attended, and very

successful NICA Business EXPO and Fare Foods Food Show. The NICA Foundation found its mission, formed a Board of Trustees, approved it Operating Bylaws, and exceeded its 2020 scholarship awarding goals. Our social media engagement has increased by 13.5% as we have provided useful information, fun activities, and networking events. The Code of Bylaws was updated to allow meetings to be held virtually and to allow for the use of current technology. (Yes, we have moved our meeting platform to Zoom along with the rest of the world). As of our publishing date, NICA and Fare Foods are “Movin’ Forward” during Florida Week with an in-person 2021

NICA Business Expo and Fare Foods Food Show at the Sheraton Tampa Brandon Hotel. Like most 2021 events, this event looked slightly different than in the past, however, we are excited to host the event as an act of “Movin’ Forward in 2021.” On Tuesday, February 16 we had a Food Show from 1:00 – 8:00. New workshops such as “Unintended Conse-

quences to the Supply Chain” and favorite workshops like Phil Teague taking us back to Insurance Basics. The roll-out of the Peer-to-Peer Resource Center with topics like bunk house protocols and the Transfer of Ownership white paper. Prizes and giveaways were provided throughout the day. The NICA Annual General Membership Meeting was held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 5:00 PM. All Regular

and Associate Members, their guests and interested persons were invited to attend. Light hors d’oeuvres were available. (Due to the Pandemic, regretfully the Gala Dinner did not occur this year.) The meeting included installation of the 2021 NICA Board of Directors, awarding CCE awards to Brandy Arredondo, CCE, Jacqueline Bradbury, CCE, and Jay "Rocko" Russell, CCE, Announcement of Coca-Cola Membership Contest Recipients, and Induction of NICA Past President, Greg Miller CCE, Miller and Company into the NICA Hall of Fame. This year’s audio/visual tribute was to the Power of Drive-Thrus! The 2021 NICA Business Expo and Fare Foods

Food Show followed CDC guidelines. Wearing a face mask was required in the hotel and at all Expo and Food Show events. Seating layouts and Food Show exhibits used social distancing protocols. As to where are we going in 2021? WE WANT TO

GO BACK TO WORK to deliver great fairs to fairgo- ers and earn money for our families and communities. I do not know about you, but I am really tired of the word “uncertain.” I have moved onto the concept of “Wet Cement” for 2021. Yes, it will be messy, but it will also begin to take form so we can make decisions and move forward. We have work to do, waiting to do, listening to do, flexing to do, and deep breathing to do, but the important part is the “to do.” Let’s do it all…TOGETHER.

With bundles of encouragement, Rey O’Day, NICA Executive Director
