Fish welcome at White Bay 6 T
he White Bay 6 Marine Park in Sydney Harbour has received international recognition from the Marina Industries Association (MIA) for its
positive contributions towards the creation and improvement of fish habitat through its accreditation as a Fish Friendly Marina. Fish Friendly accreditation is an enhancement
to the site’s Clean Marina accreditation and further demonstration of White Bay 6’s commitment to environmental sustainability and improvement. The MIA now has over 57 Clean Marina accredited sites and a further 35 have also succeeded in attaining Fish Friendly status. MIA President Andrew Chapman explained,
“The Fish Friendly accreditation assesses advanced elements of environmental planning and management, such as identifying opportunities to incorporate fish-friendly structures into the marina to encourage marine life and the education of marina visitors on local fish species. White Bay 6 has certainly done that, as there is information about local species everywhere across the site and they have gone so far as to implement a QR code to record marine pests”. The site has been successful for several years in achieving accreditation under the 103-point environmental Clean Marina audit, but this is
the first time it has been accredited as a Fish Friendly Marina. On learning of the accreditation, General Manager Lorraine Yates said, “We’re all big smiles here sharing this wonderful news, particularly to be awarded the MIA Fish Friendly accreditation, which is brand new for White Bay 6. We have a strong culture of compliance, working closely with an environmental management consultant, and we have developed an excellent relationship with the
Beachfront resort for Bahamas is silent
As a pioneer in solar-electric luxury catamarans, Silent-Yachts has displayed a particularly global vision. The brand’s Silent 55 is built in China, its new Silent 60 is being built in Thailand and several units of its future flagship 80 are under construction in Italy, where more 60s are being built to cope with demand for what is already the brand’s best- selling model. Yet before either a single hull of either the 60 or 80 have touched water, Austrian Michael Kohler, the company’s founder and CEO, has joined forces with American architect Victor Barrett to create Silent Resorts, with plans to develop solar-powered beachfront resorts utilising Silent catamarans as floating villas. Building on the solar technology developed
for Silent-Yachts catamarans, Silent Resorts will launch its first yacht-and-villa retreat in the Caribbean, while Asia is in the plans as the new company looks to grow a global network of exclusive, eco-friendly holiday destinations.
Designed to be sustainable in operation, the 30-acre Silent Island is located in the district of North Eleuthera, Bahamas, which has its own airport and is a 55-minute flight East of Miami. Following its initial development, Silent
Resorts intends to expand its network across the globe and is scouting for suitable sites at idyllic beachfront and island locations. The company states that a turnkey resort can be operational in 18 months or less in any location worldwide.

We’re very proud,” she added.
