2020 FEF College Industry Conference: The Show Goes On

F

EF’s College Industry Conference (CIC) is traditionally held every De- cember in Chicago. Nothing has

changed for decades! Until 2020. Unable to meet in person, this year’s conference took on a different form, but the mission and the result were the same. Both the CIC scholarship presen- tations and the career fair were conduct- ed virtually. The 2020 CIC began on Tuesday, December 17, with a Zoom scholar- ship presentation. Scholarships total- ing $58,000.00 were presented to 24 CIC delegates. Students, professors, FEF Board Members, and scholarship pre- senters, 127 in all, attended the event. Scholarship recipients represented thir- teen different schools – from west coast to the southeast; northeast to the mid- west. Nine recipients were females, and

most scholarships were awarded to se- niors, but several juniors and grad stu- dents also received awards. We appreci- ate the donors who provide funding for these scholarships each year and thank those who were able to join us for this year’s scholarship presentation event. All of the scholarship checks and

certificates were mailed to the FEF Key Professors prior to the December 17 pre- sentation. This way, students were able to receive their awards right away. Following the Zoom event, it was time to open up the job fair. Using the Career Fair Plus platform, 155 students were able to make appointments with 62 industry personnel representing 22 companies. For three hours, recruiters met with delegates talking about the available jobs and internships at their companies and how each delegate

might fit in with their company’s plans for the future. It was important to con- tinue the tradition of the job fair as there are many students ready to jump into the industry this winter and to make a difference, as well as many companies facing upcoming retirements and open positions for just the right individual. Although this form of career fair was

a first for many – for the students and the industry representatives – everyone adjusted and many good contacts were made.

If your company is looking for your

next invaluable employee, FEF’s net- work of colleges and universities is the best place to start. And talking to the CIC delegates is starting with the best of the best. If you are interested in making sure you receive information for the next CIC, please email pam@fefinc.org.
