Mental health supports critical during COVID-19

It’s important to look after


your mental health as well as your physical health. One way people can help maintain their mental health is by talking


to a professional. “It depends on the concern they might dealing with. It could be for


a variety of reasons; you are going through something like a loss — if you’re going through a grief or loss it might be helpful to talk through that and process with someone who’s non-judgemental, they’re accepting,and potentially have that outsider perspective that might be helpful,”said Bryan Bullock, a registered professional psychologist and counsellor with FCSS.“It could be also be helpful if you’re looking to make some tweaks to well-being, and hopefully it doesn’t necessar- ily feel like things have to be disastrous to see a counsellor, but just be able to explore possible tools, strategies, different perspectives that might be helpful to maintain or achieve a level of well-being, that’s what we would be looking for.” Bullock stressed that a person has rights, and during a session with a


counsellor or therapist, they don’t need to say any more than they feel comfortable, noting that “there can sometimes be a perception of you got to lay it all out there.” It is also important to remember that the relationship you have with your councillor is also important, and if you don’t feel like you have a good connection with them, it is okay to
