“Lindsay’s been the biggest help. I wouldn’t have done it without her, because she handles it — I just make masks. If I had extra she would post what they were, and people would pick them up there. It’s been enjoyable, let’s put it that way.” Early restrictions related to the pandemic were difficult for Anderson, and making masks was one way for the octogenarian to keep active and occupied. “Very much so. I was always out and about and doing things with oth-

ers, and so all the sudden to not even be able to go to my kids’houses — they didn’t want me to come there because of their children, and they were worried about it. So that helped fill a void.” By last count, Anderson has now completed more than 1,100 masks and shows no sign of slowing down. “I have thought of it, but then all the sudden there’s a whole bunch

more requests. I don’t want to overdue it, but I still enjoy it, which I thought is amazing because I thought if I did 50 I’d be tired of it. I really did, because I like going on to other things. With all of these fabrics, it’s just like a quilt, you can hardly wait to see how it ends up.With different fabrics, all the sudden there’s children that want it — the cute materials that people have sent, that they want patterns out of.That’s brought a variety to it.” A long-time resident of Barnwell, Anderson has called the community home since 1959, and she serves as an inspiration for her six children, 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.Proceeds from sales have gone to humanitarian aid, the local food bank, and various other charities. Anderson said she has donated more than $1,000 so far. “I couldn’t have done it without those who helped donate stuff, because I wasn’t going out shopping for things…people have been very kind, and appreciative.”
