“But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.”
– Luke 14:13-14
A popular Broadway song once said, “We need a little Christmas.” Perhaps, this year more than any other, that’s so true. With COVID-19 and so many other issues making 2020 a year none of us would want to relive, we must fully embrace the spirit of Christmas and use it to share our faith, hope and love as we never have before. That’s why what we are doing this year is so much more than just giving presents. We are focusing on bringing value to those who believe no one cares. We are reaching out to those who feel like they have been forgotten, put aside or lost. We are sharing the Gospel with each gift, food basket and item of clothing. So how can you get involved in this outpouring of Holiday spirit? Just keep reading to find a place where you can plug into a mission that helps one or more of the groups that needs us the most in 2020.
WME’s Wyman Pylant with a child who received a gift thanks to a WME donor.
1. WME is working with women’s shelters caring for individuals and single mothers with children. The goal is to restore hope to these women and eventually give them a fresh start. They need basic items like toiletries, cutlery, pots, pans, towels, bedding and pantry items. Baby products like diapers, wipes and bottles are in demand for infants and toddlers.
2. There are homeless men and women living on the streets who need help to make it through the winter. They need items like coats, gloves, blankets, shoes, warm meals and toiletries.
3. WME’s annual Christmas program supplies food baskets to poor families. We also provide toys to children and teens who receive little to nothing at Christmas. Just imagine — A gift you share might be the one sign a child receives this year that someone loves them!
