So they delay seeking treatment and deteriorate further.

Sadly, the stigma is real. The discrimination, shame and cruelty borne by those with leprosy is extreme. Some tell stories how their own families behave as if they have died once a diagnosis is given. Lepers are quickly rejected by friends and neighbors and forced to relocate with close family to leper colonies. For many, begging on the street is their only possibility for income. Lepers with visible bandages or missing limbs are chased away and harassed by people who refuse to be near them. Even those treated and no longer contagious are still despised, as any disfigurement is a visible sign of their suffering. Many remain in leper colonies for the rest of their lives.

WORLD MISSIONARY EVANGELISM HAS TAKEN UP THE CALL TO REACH THOSE THE WORLD HAS REJECTED DUE TO LEPROSY. These suffering souls are desperate for care and for someone to show compassion in the midst of their suffering. Who better to do that than Christians who understand there is nothing that can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ?

WME has a medical clinic in the town of Bhubaneswar to reach lepers and their families, offer them medicines and treatment, give them a nourishing meal to eat and provide them with hope. Our WME Native Missionaries regularly talk and pray with those dealing with leprosy, constantly sharing God’s love and grace. The physical and spiritual care freely given leads some to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Please partner with WME to help those who have been shunned by society as “OUTCASTS.” Together, we can seize the rare opportunity God has given us to reach the ostracized, forsaken and hopeless. Your gift to this important outreach can help to heal sick bodies and help to restore broken hearts.
