According to a recent survey by The Careers and Enterprise Company, 74% of teachers say employability skills are now the most important way to improve pupils’ career prospects. With 49% also fearing a lack of jobs for young people and damage to their career prospects as result of the pandemic. In response to Covid-19,

Chamber members to consider becoming enterprise advisers. enterprise advisers volunteer with schools to help them plan the best careers programmes by offering strategic guidance. Greg Kirkman, managing
director of Ensafe Consultants, joined SEMLEP’s Enterprise Adviser Network after reflecting on his own children’s routes into employment: He said: “There are bright, willing, able and engaged young people out there that want to find out more about local careers. It’s down to us as business leaders to inspire them.” SEMLEP’s Enterprise
Adviser Network is currently made up of 98 local business leaders from across Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire and Luton.

SINGING IN REMEMBRANCE
On 31 July, John Griff, Kevin Rogers, Hannah Brady and the team from All Things Business, gathered to film a short medley of wartime songs to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VJ Day. Preparing for a VE Day 2020
programme, local broadcaster John Griff spoke to World War II navy veteran, Geoff. When John asked Geoff what it was like returning home after VJ Day, Geoff recalled that nobody welcomed the forgotten army. In light of this, John reached out
to fellow Chamber members to discuss a way of remembering those like Geoff who fought for us in Japan. After an initial conversation with Kevin Rogers, Chairman of Wilson Browne solicitors and president of the Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, the duo decided to put a call in to Hannah
Brady, vice president of the Next Generation Chamber, and Ben Thomas at All Things Business. The team put their heads together and decided to record a medley of songs from the era. The team also raised money for Help for Heroes through their efforts.
Kevin Rogers said: “We hope
people enjoy the video. We would love to make Help for Heroes proud of Northamptonshire businesses.”
