BUSINESS REPORT NEW DIRECTOR AT CAWLEYS

Despite the current impact lockdown is having on countless businesses across the region, Cawleys are extremely confident that they can bounce back and grow business volumes substantially as soon as the current pandemic restrictions are behind us. As such, the business is continuously looking to expand and evolve its offering and is delighted to announce the appointment of Nigel Ingram as its new operations director. Nigel, who joined the business in

May, is responsible for developing and driving Cawleys’ strategy to deliver tangible results within the waste processing and commodities division. His appointment is driven in part

by the news that Tony Goodman, Cawleys’ director of sales and resource management, will be taking retirement at the end of the year. Tony Goodman has been an invaluable member of the senior team at Cawleys for over 30 years and will be greatly missed. Nigel’s appointment, several months prior to Tony’s departure, will allow the two to work together to ensure knowledge share and a smooth transition for the business.

Commenting on the appointment

Phil Gudgeon, managing director, said: Although it will be some months before Tony leaves the business, his departure will be felt widely across the organisation. Tony has been integral to the success of our organisation and his knowledge, expertise and experience will be missed. We hope that brining Nigel on board will ensure a smooth handover before Tony’s journey into retirement. Having worked in the waste

sector for more than 20 years, Nigel brings a wealth of experience to our business. He has held senior roles at both Suez and Veolia and has demonstrated high standards of performance and achievement in all his previous roles. We are greatly looking forward to welcoming him to the team and the positive impact we are sure he will have on our operation.” Cawleys is one of the UK’s

leading independently owned waste and resource recycling companies. The company ethos is ‘local recycling, global responsibility’ and the company celebrated its 70th anniversary in business in 2017.

HOWES PERCIVAL LEAD ACQUISITION

Howes Percival has acted for private equity firm the Cadman Capital Group on the acquisition of Lincolnshire-based specialist printing and packaging firms Norpol Packaging Limited and Burbridge Packaging (Louth) Limited. The Howes Percival team was led by

Miles Barnes (corporate) (pictured) and was supported by Lucy Lord (commercial property), Graham Irons and Sobia Ahmad (employment), Rob Starr (regulatory) and Sam Moore (tax). The team carried out an extensive legal

due diligence process and advised on the key transaction documents. The deal was progressed throughout the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown and is one of several completed by the Howes Percival Corporate team during this difficult period. Commenting on the deal, Miles Barnes, corporate solicitor at Howes

Percival, said: “We're delighted to have advised Cadman Capital on these acquisitions. The transactions took place during lockdown - which presented some interesting challenges. “Despite remote working and social distancing, we have continued

to advise our clients on high value, complex transactions and help them achieve fantastic results. Although there is a great deal of uncertainty around what the next few months will hold for the economy, there continues to be a robust M&A market for UK SMEs. In particular, private equity firms and companies backed by them continue to actively invest in high quality British businesses.”

QUEEN’S AWARD FOR COMMUNITY CENTRE

Youth Club (SCCYC) have been helping up to 300 people each week since 7 March, including the town’s most vulnerable, in partnership with a host of groups. The volunteers have been

supporting all walks of life, including hot food for the homeless, food parcels, grocery shopping and prescription pickups for vulnerable elderly people, and families living in the most deprived areas of town. SCCYC also provides BAME culture- specific support and some elderly volunteers have been making PPE to support care workers on the frontline, keeping themselves busy whilst shielding too. SCCYC and SGSS are volunteer

led organisations and have been recognised for its voluntary work through receiving the Queens Award for Voluntary Service - MBE for Voluntary Groups in June 2020. Amarjit Singh Atwal, trustee of SCCYC & SGSS, said: “I’m delighted

our organisations, which have been established for over 40 years, have been recognised with this highest award for voluntary services. Although we are a small community, through the commitment and dedication of our volunteers we have a big output of services across Northampton. I pay tribute to hard work and commitment of our past and present volunteers whose selfless efforts have led to this award and recognition.”
