Easy-to-use tyre pressure system unveiled for farmers

Michelin is introducing its latest agricultural tyre technology into the UK with the launch of Zen@ Terra for high-powered tractors – enabling farmers to easily adjust tyre pressures for heavy road and field work.

The longer life tyre is more efficient, says Firestone

for excellent traction and improved fuel efficiency, while the flexible cas- ing of the tyre reduces soil compac- tion and improves road handling and comfort. As the Performer and Perform- er Extra tyre ranges maintain the same dimensions they are in- ter-compatible both on the same ve- hicle and on the same axle. Like the Firestone Performer 85 and 70, the Performer Extra can be fit to most tractors used for agriculture.

The Zen@Terra connects di- rectly into the tractor’s ISOBUS system. It is designed to be fitted in combination with a central tyre inflation system and Miche- lin’s Ultraflex tyre range but can be used with any Michelin agri- cultural tyre.

Once installed, it allows farm- ers to switch between low pres- sures, for maximum soil protec- tion, and higher pressures, to maximise performance on the road. The process takes a matter of minutes and can be operated via an easy-to-use, integrated in- cab touch-screen display.

Operators can easily switch between different pressures

Pre-programmed settings al- low the user to tailor pressures depending on the implement at- tached and vehicle usage. Pres- sures can be adjusted for emp- ty, half or full loads, as well as slope work. A special boost func- tion sets extreme low pressure for three minutes, when extra grip is needed. Michelin national agricultural sales manager Mark White said the system was easy to operate. It would enable farmers and contrac- tors to quickly change tyre pres-

sures to best suit the ground they were working on.

“This helps to optimise the per- formance of their vehicles, increas- es tyre life, improves productivi- ty and yields, while reducing fuel costs and protecting the soil – all of which supports Michelin’s core value of sustainable mobility.” Compatible with most modern

tractors, the system is the result of years of research and develop- ment by Michelin engineers. It is being rolled out across the UK fol- lowing a series of trials.

“I have been farming for over 50 years, during which time I have purchased many a product both large and small, and on

nearly every occasion I have been left with the distinct feeling of being financially ripped off – whether it be a new tractor or a wheelbarrow that constantly gets a puncture – now solved with a puncture-free wheel!

However this Sprayer Jack I am totally delighted with – it is well designed, robustly constructed and finished to a high

degree of perfection. The only major thing wrong is I should have bought one years ago!
