New era as James Woolway purchases Stocks Ag
Agricultural machinery manu- facturer Stocks Ag has been pur- chased by James Woolway. The Wisbech-based supplier
of wheels, tyres and applicators has supplied farmers worldwide for more than 40 years. The pur- chase was completed at the be- ginning of August.
Brought up on the family
farm, Mr Woolway has worked in the machinery sector since com- pleting a degree in agricultural engineering in 1994. While his experience lies in sales, market- ing and management, he has been keen to get involved in ag- ricultural machinery manufac- turing.
In 2005, James took over as managing director and subse- quently owner of Opico – now the UK’s largest independent agricultural machinery import-
Stocks Ag management team – (l-r) Mark Lee, Daniel Notley, Andrew Wright and James Woolway
er. He intends to run Stocks Ag and Opico as two separate com- panies, with different products, sales teams and their own dis- tribution channels. That said, there are clear ben-
efits from the economies of scale, said Mr Woolway. “Stocks Ag is a well-known and respected UK brand,” he said. “This acquisition
provides more security for both businesses. “Opico gains from having a sis- ter company in a different market area, with a manufacturing facil- ity and export markets. Stocks gains from the size and structure of its sister company, having ac- cess to in-house IT, marketing and financial systems.”
New tyre lasts 20% longer, claims Firestone
Firestone has marked another mile- stone on its journey to offer superi- or performance to farmers with the launch of a longer lasting tyre. Based on the popular Firestone
Performer 85 and 70 tyres, the Per- former Extra is the result of an en- hanced wear resistance compound. The company says it extends tyre life by 20% compared to its predecessors. The tyre’s extended life helps to reduce its environmental footprint, as well as cutting down on long- term operational costs and improv- ing business efficiency. A dual-angle lug provides traction, while an ex- tra load option allows a higher load- ing capacity than some competitor products.
Like its predecessors, the Fires-
tone Performer Extra has been de- signed with reliability as a priority. The tyre has a self-cleaning tread
