Liquid nitrogen doubles oilseed rape root length
A
balanced regime of liquid fertiliser applied in the autumn doubled the root
length of oilseed rape, according to an ADAS trial. Bionature’s Delta liquid nitro-
gen applied at the recommended rate, achieved a 104% increase in specific root length compared to the non-treated control crop, ac- cording to trial results from crops planted in 2019

Carter said getting rape estab- lished and away rapidly was im- portant to counteract pests and diseases. “Early root development is key to rapid emergence and this is stimulated by readily available nitrogen, so the plant can develop an efficient root system. “Autumn applied Delta liquid fertiliser has a positive charge, which means it sticks to the soil, as well as penetrating it, leading to an increase in nitrogen use ef-
ficiency. It also means less nitro- gen will be lost through leaching.” Bionature Delta fertiliser is a stabilised nitrogen fertiliser with potassium for improved rooting, stress tolerance, crop quality and yield production.
Heavy clay
Lincolnshire farmer Colin Chap- pell said he had good results with Delta on 9ha of oilseed rape grown on heavy clay land. “We had a much straighter, longer tap root on treated crops than the un- treated section of the field and ul- timately, the difference between the sample on untreated and Del- ta-treated crops was significant. “Usually we would grow more

the flooding, where other crops would have failed.” Delta is available in pack siz- es of 20 litres or 1000 litre IBCs and is compatible with most oth- er crop protection products on the market.
