Top awards for college staff


Inspirational Sheffield College staff have been commended in an annual virtual awards ceremony. The annual Staff Excellence


Awards 2020 event took place online for the first time due to current coronavirus safety measures. The awards recognise members of staff across the organisation, who have had an exceptional impact on students, colleagues or the wider community this year. Angela Foulkes, Chief


Executive and Principal, The Sheffield College, said: “I am very proud of our brilliant award winners, who have had such a positive impact on our students or colleagues. “In addition to our annual


awards, we have also recognised some of the college’s unsung heroes this year who have been commended by their peers as going the extra mile during lockdown. I’d also like to pay tribute to all of our fantastic staff who have pulled together to support our students.”


‘Our nursery stayed open during lockdown’


In their nomination submissions, students praised teaching staff for being inspirational and supportive, and going the extra mile to help them to achieve and excel during lockdown. Joanne Hardy, Senior


Manager, The Sheffield College Nursery Service, whose team won the Chair of Governors’ Choice Award, said: “Our nursery stayed open during lockdown with our team providing care to vulnerable as well as key worker children from across the city, whose parents were working on the frontline. It’s brilliant that our contribution has been recognised.” Seb Schmoller, Chair of The Sheffield College Governing Body, added: “Our staff and students have been stretched since Covid-19 hit. I want to express my sincere admiration for the way that staff have risen to that challenge and recognise their efforts as they progress the college’s re- opening plans for the new academic year.”

Foundation Trust, said: “Fundraising for the charity during lockdown has been no mean feat when supporters haven’t been able to get together with friends, family and colleagues in person. “We are challenging you to have the ultimate


summer of fun by learning a new skill, taking on a challenge, connecting with your family and friends in creative ways or by entertaining others virtually. We are looking forward to seeing you bring our fundraising ideas to life or surprising us with your own too.” The charity raises funds to provide the added extras

Virtual marathon Your gym may still be closed and your local sports clubs on standby, but that need not stop you running for the fun of it. Tackling 26.2 miles is a tall order so why not challenge your friends, family, work colleagues or sports team members to share the leg work by running the distance between you? You can do this in your garden, on your treadmill or around your local park.


Virtual Red Carpet New movies may still be waiting for their curtain call but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy all the fun of the movies at home. Pick your premier date, select a film and send out tickets to your fellow audience members. To make it extra special why not turn your movie night into a red carpet event and dress for the occasion in your finest outfits?


Sponsored Summer Walk Rotherham is blessed with parks, woodland and green spaces galore. Why not challenge yourself or a team to a sponsored walk? (Remember to keep social distancing in mind.)


Virtual Talent Show Challenge your friends and family to a Britain’s Got Talent-style virtual talent show. Whether you can sing, dance, rap, perform magic tricks, act or make people laugh – the choice is yours.


Virtual Happy Hour Enjoying coffee or cocktails remotely has been the only (safe) way of catching up with friends, family and colleagues lately. But lockdown doesn’t mean you should miss out on catching up with your favourite people.
