A message from the Board of Directors
All the Directors of the Chamber recognise that we are currently in a challenging time for business, with uncertainty and a rapidly evolving environment of guidance and advice. As a Board we want you to know that we are all in this together and the Chamber is here to help you through this period as a source of information and support during this crisis, you are not alone. Furthermore we are working closely with our
local authorities and was pleased to see the speed at which both Barnsley and Rotherham Council paid thousands of £10,000 grants to business on our patch during this uncertain time and have how this has helped many of our member businesses navigate through some very challenging times. There are also several grants available from the
Sheffield City Region Growth Hub:
www.scrgrowthhub.co.uk which is available to help members with training, business planning, and other useful matters during this period. Running your own business can be uncertain in
the best of times. The Chamber is always here to help you, providing information on the Government’s support for business, Q & A sessions you may have on HR, health & safety issues, dealing with mental health challenges and utilising technology, alongside pointing and directing you towards other useful resources.
28 CHAMBERconnect Summer 2020 As a board we urge you to keep communicating
openly and honestly about the positives you are encountering but also the challenges. Struggling is not a weakness, it is a fact of life
and business. As a community we have the answers and support. If you are unsure of who to speak to start with
our Chamber team - these people are knowledgeable and understanding, they know what our network looks like and can possibly introduce you to the right person. If you’d like to move a wider issue forward feed
this into the Rep Council. They are always looking for feedback and this can be fed into any of our active working groups including Women in Business, Policy, Audit and Finance and the Skills working group. Both Andrew Denniff, our Chief Executive, and
Joada Allen, our President, attend these meetings and appreciate the input from all our members. Finally, if your able to join in with the virtual networking and webinars please do, it is a great place to talk to other businesses and people that may be in a similar position to yourselves. We have a lot of work to do as businesses
moving forward and we hope that we can all pull together to support and celebrate with one another.
“It has been great to run a series of online events that have included networking and knowledge-based webinars. We have adapted to the change to support our members during these challenging times. We have hosted over 40 events since the start of April, which has seen over 450 members attend. This is fantastic to see. Members have really engaged with their membership and found value to the events we have ran over the last few months.” “I would like to thank all members that
have joined us and supported the online events calendar.”
