Business and NHS deliver Health Centre in Doncaster

In response to the need for a temporary clinic to support patients during the coronavirus outbreak, a fully refurbished and equipped Health Centre opened at Cavendish Court, Doncaster in early April. The Phoenix Clinic is the result of the

commitment of the NHS and local businesses to work together in partnership and provide new and additional facilities to support patients during the Coronavirus crisis. The Clinic has been commissioned by NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and is located at Cavendish Court, a premium business and community space in the heart of Doncaster. The clinic is located adjacent to the Same Day Health Centre in Doncaster. Owner of Cavendish Court, Vigo Group,

potential to treat up to

1,000 patients a week’

worked closely with other tenants to free up space in order to create this much needed facility. The CCG approved the conversion of the space into a self-contained five-room unit with

Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We have been very pleased with the speed with which Vigo Group has responded to our call to create a temporary facility to provide support to Doncaster patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful to both Vigo and the previous tenants, for working together to ensure the facility is made available and operational as quickly as possible. Please note that patients must not turn up without an appointment, as they will not be seen without being spoken to on the telephone and

allocated a specific time and appointment

first.” Tariq Shah, Vigo Group Director, added: “We would like to thank existing occupiers of

The Wellness Centre at Cavendish Court for helping us deliver this vital clinic for the people of Doncaster.”

Deaf Trust launches online BSL course

More than 5,500 people are now learning British Sign Language (BSL) via Doncaster’s Deaf Trust’s free online level one course. The online course, launched by the Doncaster Chamber member, was developed thanks to National Lottery funding and has seen thousands sign up to take part to learn Level One BSL. Alexis Johnson, Executive Principal of

Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “We are thrilled to have seen such a positive response to our free resource, enabling people to learn a new skill during this unprecedented time. “Our team have been working hard to develop

the online course and brought the launch forward so that people who are at home can access the course and learn how to sign. “Sign Language is a great communication tool

for people to learn and we know that there are many campaigns to have British Sign Language taught in schools. We are sure that this platform will also be useful to people who are helping the Deaf community as the Covid-19 pandemic and government measures regarding social distancing and isolation will mean that some Deaf people will need help and assistance and basic sign language knowledge will help massively in making them feel reassured. “It is simple to sign up and you can run through the course at your own pace

36 CHAMBERconnect Spring 2020 Pupils at Doncaster Deaf Trust “Huge thanks to Natalie Pollard who is the

course designer and one of the signers, Mike Beslin, the eLearning course producer from the Trust and our signers who have worked tirelessly to make this happen. “Without the Lottery funding this would not

have been possible, so a big thank you goes out to them too.

“We are looking forward to seeing lots of

people sign up to the course and develop a new skill. Anyone wanting to share videos or photos of them practicing their new skills should tag Doncaster Deaf Trust Facebook page in their posts.”
